Primary Care IT and Digital Support Officer

Job summary

Islington GP Federation (IGPF) is looking for an IT and Digital Support Officer who will be part of IGPF IT and Analytics team.

The post holder will be a key support role, directly working with the IT and Analytics teams and with colleagues across an exciting range of services provided by IGPF.

IGPF is working closely with primary care colleagues to deliver ambitions of excellent provision of care and looking at opportunities at scale optimising existing systems and presenting new solutions.

The post holder will have extensive EMIS knowledge and be able to deliver supportive interventions to EMIS users in primary and community care. The post holder will also provide EMIS training to a wide range of stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

Current and ongoing programs of work being undertaken by the team include:

  1. Standardised and automated patient recall functionality
  2. Development and launch of Digital Hub with optimised Digital Triage for patients
  3. Front end user support remotely and across sites of operations when required
  4. Provide an optimal IT and Digital experience across a variety of roles and teams
  5. EMIS expertise and engagement across several EMIS platforms
  6. Optimising current EMIS searches and insight reporting

Islington GP Federation (IGPF) is a growing organisation representing 31 practices; we have established ourselves as a leader in new ways of working, including running Islingtons extended access primary care services (I:HUB) as well as supporting the Islington Primary Care Networks (PCNs). Our current range of services include the Extended Access Service, I:HUB, Community Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Integrated Community Gynaecology, practice-based pharmacists and a range of practice support mechanisms.

IGPF works very closely with a range of partners including the regional commissioning group, NHS England, Healthy London Partnership, Public Health, local hospitals such as UCLH, the Whittington Health and the London Borough of Islington.

IGPF is the host organisation for the Primary Care Network (PCN) workforce and the Islington Training Hub, and has been working for over two years to create training and development programmes that meet the needs of staff working in primary and community care settings. IGPF runs three Islington GP practices with a fourth practice that will be taken on in the summer.

JOB TITLE: Primary Care IT and Digital Support Officer

REPORTS TO: Head of Business Services

HOURS: 37.5 per week

SALARY: £31,000 to £35,000 (based on experience)

CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent

The Role:

  2. The successful candidate will have experience of resolving IT issues for front end users.

Job Responsibilities

EMIS Expertise:

  1. Be an EMIS expert and be a first point of call for resolution of EMIS issues within IGPF
  2. Deliver EMIS training to agreed individuals and groups (e.g. ARRS roles, PCNs, administrative staff working in GP practices)
  3. Ensure all training delivered is of high quality with up to date materials and evaluated identifying key areas for improvements
  4. Write EMIS searches and provide high quality reports and data in a clear readable easy to present format
  5. Work closely with IT leads, Digital and Transformation Leads, Network and Infrastructure manager to identify opportunities for improvement in EMIS related outputs
  6. Be part of a program of ongoing qualitative review of existing EMIS searches
  7. Technology and Analytics opportunities:
  8. Assist in the performance and maintenance of existing technology solutions across IGPF
  9. Explore and evaluate new digital technologies by looking at costs, functionality and associated benefits
  10. Implement agreed new technology solutions and support optimisation of existing ones across wide range of IGPF stakeholders
  11. Support IGPF Senior Analyst with dashboard development and maintenance

IT support and Customer care

  1. Support the delivery of IT projects across IGPF developing and implementing agreed use cases
  2. Update and monitor project plans for agreed projects
  3. Support building and maintaining IT policies and guidance
  4. Work closely with Network and Infrastructure manager to support IT and digital functionality across delivery sites
  5. Provide frontline support to users of systems in response to service requirement
  6. Provide high quality, professional and customer focused experience. This may include analysing situations, information and supporting resolution
  7. Escalate any potential or knows issues relating to the operation of Digital Systems as soon as these are detected
  8. Actively maintain knowledge of systems through continuous proactive learning
  9. Promote and implement appropriate use of patient data in line with GPDR and Data Protection Act requirements
  10. Be a positive, proactive influence on colleagues and the wider team

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C or above including Maths and English
Desirable
  • Degree level/equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience, which demonstrates equivalent academic skills.

Experience

Essential
  • Advanced knowledge of EMIS including use of the care record, template
  • manager, population reporting, and the appointment book.
  • Advanced Excel knowledge and data literacy.
  • Good knowledge of Office and Windows applications.
Desirable
  • Entry level Power BI and Python knowledge.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, experience of network
  • troubleshooting and network patching.
