Junior Energy Manager Apprenticeship (London)
Role
Purpose of the role: To support the day-to-day implementation of the Firm’s energy and environmental policy, associated initiatives and ISO standards, monitoring compliance, collating all relevant data and providing reports. All training will be provided.
Energy and Carbon Management
- Assist with the gathering of energy performance data and implementation of energy awareness and motivation programmes and their associated communication strategies for reduced energy use.
- Help to identify and explain variables that vary the energy consumption of our premises (e.g. building operation and occupancy, summer/winter, day/night).
- Relate the operation of plant, processes and equipment to energy consumption, to help identify energy efficiency opportunities.
- Conduct basic financial calculations relating to energy costs and savings.
- Identify and explain suitable and measurable energy performance indicators (e.g. consumption per employee, occupied space, revenue).
- Complete agreed reports and ensure records are maintained for audit and reporting purposes.
- Help procure utilities as required (electricity, gas and water).
- Assist with calculation of our global carbon footprint and the third-party verification process.
- Communicate effectively using evidence-based reporting, communication and presentation skills, helping to create visual outputs that can be shared internally and externally as relevant.
- Participate with team in the ongoing management of external consultants supporting energy-related initiatives, including arrangement of suitable contracts.
Management Systems – ISO 14001 & ISO 50001
- Support the Sustainability and Facilities Compliance team in the implementation of our Environmental Management System in compliance with ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).
- Maintain the Integrated Management System Manual, Register of Legislation and Energy and Environmental Aspects Register.
- Help to establish energy and environmental objectives and targets appropriate to the business, to ensure compliance with the 'continuous improvement' requirements of ISO standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with the standards, applicable legislation and internal policies.
- Record instances of non-conformance and follow up to ensure close out of corrective actions.
Management Information and Reporting
- Input to periodic reports to management on compliance, performance against objectives and targets, results of audits.
- Assist with mandatory reporting requirements such as the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme, Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting, LLP (Climate-related Financial Disclosure) Regulations and other publications, including our Carbon Reduction Plan and Transition Plan.
- Ensure the Carbon Manager tool is being updated on a regular basis and arrange amendments as required.
- Help to develop visual outputs and reports in Power BI.
- Develop the energy and environmental sections of the intranet.
- Maintain energy and environmental related information in the pre-written content and associated reference guide.
- Provide input to bids, client requests and other questionnaires.
General
- Assist with the assessment of supplier energy and environmental credentials through the procurement and contracting process, including scoring of questionnaires, review of supplier websites and assessment of other publicly available information such as CDP, SBTi and Companies House.
Training
As a part of your apprenticeship, you will study towards the Level 3 Junior Energy Manager Apprenticeship Standard delivered by Nationwide Energy Training Services Ltd trading as Impact Academy.
You will spend 20% of your week studying modules which include Introduction to Energy Management, Introduction to Energy Audit, Waste Management, and Carbon Management. The training will be delivered virtually. You will also receive regular feedback, and meet with your coach/tutor to support your ongoing progress.
Upon successful completion of the Junior Energy Manager Apprenticeship, there may be opportunities to progress on to other opportunities at Pinsent Masons.
