Bulk and Onsite Maintenance Technician Apprentice

You’ll be part of a growing service engineering team who work to support our customers across the UK. Our programme offers roles across the UK and, no matter where you join, you’ll get both face-to-face and virtual training to learn the skills and knowledge required for the role.

Role

As an apprentice with us you’ll be fully supported to achieve a nationally recognised engineering qualification by the end of your 4 years at Air Liquide. You’ll be fully supported by an experienced member of the team, learning all about how we deliver an outstanding service, making you an expert in your field. We’ll also assign you a buddy and assessor to guide you through your day-to-day tasks.

Duties include:

  • Service and problem-solve our equipment
  • Ensuring that health and safety standards are upheld, including the wearing of PPE, hazards are identified and minimised
  • Accident and near-miss reporting processes are followed
  • Complete the required academic and practical training requirements of the apprenticeship
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of other aspects of the Company’s operations by participating in assigned training/projects as and when required

Gain hands-on operational experience by assisting the site engineers in the following duties:

  • Carry out preventive maintenance and routine scheduling servicing in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations
  • Deal with machine breakdowns and effect repairs to ensure minimum downtime
  • Updating and maintaining accurate information on the company IT maintenance systems
  • Management of maintenance and repair sub-contractors (as and when required)
  • General labouring and housekeeping duties
  • Ensure work is carried out to the highest standard and in the interest of the company
  • Carry out other reasonable requests made by the line manager to support departmental or company objectives
  • Observe and comply with all good working practices

Training

  • You will attend James Watt College on a part-time basis on the Engineering Technician Standard following a mechatronics pathway
  • You will obtain the level 3 Engineering Technician Standard qualification on the completion of this apprenticeship
  • You study will include a mixture of practical and knowledge development in multiskilled engineering
  • The programme will also focus on encouraging behavioural development as an Air Liquide employee
  • This will be 3 day per week in the first year, followed by subsequent day release in the year 2
  • You will also be developed in the workplace throughout your 4 year apprenticeship working alongside the specialist engineering team at Air Liquide

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development, all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician

Plus one of the following

  • Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (QCF) – for starts up to June 2017 only
  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (QCF) - for starts up to June 2017 only
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – for all starts from 1st July 2017
  • Continuous employment with Air Liquide within a Service Engineering/Technician role
