Role
During your apprenticeship you will gain experience in the below:
- Improving the workplace with respect to health, wellbeing safety & environment
- Weld, fabricate, use machine tools, technical drawing and disassemble, rebuild, service and repair large machinery
- Machine installation & commissioning
- Planned/unplanned & preventative machinery maintenance
- Manufacture & repair of engineering components
- Troubleshooting and fault finding to solve issues with machinery
- Engineering machinery optimisation & improvements
- Gain experience & confidence in transferable soft skills so you feel comfortable working with your own initiative or part of a team
Training
You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Mechatronics Maintenance Technician pathway. On completion of this, you will gain qualifications in Engineering at Advanced Level 3;
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
