In this pivotal role, you'll collaborate closely with the IT Service Desk Manager (currently vacant) to deliver exceptional IT support services that keep our organization running smoothly. Youll play a key role in nurturing the professional development of our team, serving as the go-to escalation point for IT issues both within the team and across the Trust.
Leadership Experience: You should ideally have supervisory experience within a busy IT service desk environment, showcasing your ability to guide and inspire others.
echnical Expertise: A hands-on technical background is essential, particularly in managing and supporting Horizon 8 VDI in a live environment.
Operational Savvy: Youll be well-versed in day-to-day IT operations, with experience in mentoring and training junior staff, as well as developing and overseeing SLAs and KPIs.
Communication Skills: Your excellent soft skills will enable you to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users and stakeholders across the Trust.
Supplier Management: Experience in dealing with suppliers and third-party support companies is a must.
Participation in the IT on-call rota is required to support the hospital outside normal working hours.
Main duties of the job
The Barnsley Hospital IT Service Desk supports approximately 4500 users and in excess of 5000 devices. The devices range from Raspberry Pi to traditional desktops and laptops. It also includes Apple, Android and Google Chrome OS devices.

Skills and Abilities
- Ability to manage own workload without supervision
- Able to effectively manage work and prioritise activities
- Ability to supervise and mentor junior IT support technicians
Qualifications
- 5 GCSE grade C or above
- Computing Qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent)
- Level 3 NVQ in relevant IT related subject
- Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (latest OS) or at least 4 recent and concurrent years experience as a 2nd/3rd line IT support technician in a similar environment
- A degree in a relevant IT related subject
- ITIL Foundation
