Locum Consultant Hepatologist
Job summary
Applications are invited for a Locum Hepatology Consultant for a fixed term one year contract at Royal London Hospital. The post holder will join a team of ten consultant Hepatologist in a cohesive department which strives to provide excellent patient care in a large teaching Hospital in East London.
The post holder will work alongside the established hepatology team to support provision of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with general hepatology problems.. There is an expectation that the post-holder will lead the Hepatitis C clinical service and will be involved in the development of a community Hepatology team. They will be expected to be involved in the delivery of service in area which are in great demand within the department and develop patient pathways for management of patients across the NE London network.
The post holder will undertake teaching duties of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other professional groups (such as nursing and pharmacy). He/she will also assist in local research projects.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required as a minimum to fulfill the following criteria within this role:
1. To have and maintain full registration with the General Medical Council. Medical Staff are advised to continue membership of one of the medical defence organisations.2. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.3. Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trust's business plans. Liaison, communication and co-operation with the Lead Clinicians, General Managers and the relevant Clinical Directors for General and Specialist Medicine within the trust.4. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of junior doctors who may be allocated to support the hepatology service.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- MRCP or Equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- CCT in Gastroenterology and G(IM) or within 6m of obtaining same
- Higher Research Degree
Experience
- Broad experience in hepatology clinics and ward work
- Excellent clinical skills
- Experience of development and improvement of patient pathways between primary and secondary care
Knowledge
- Detailed knowledge of hepatology and of the specialist skills required for this post
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
- Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
- Experience and knowledge of a sub speciality within hepatology
Skills
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team - clinical and management
- Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
- Ability to communicate effectively with GPs and other professionals in hospital and community
- Diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy with evidence of KPIs
- Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
