Job summary

Bridge View Medical Group is an innovative practice based in Sunderland North. We are part of the Deep End Network, based in one of the most deprived areas in Sunderland, looking after 15,000 patients. Work is fast paced and demanding. We are looking for an experienced data administrator (clinical coder) to join our Team. You will need to be an excellent communicator, a team player and able to think on your feet.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working as a data administrator (clinical coder), preferably in a GP Practice.

You will work as part of the Data Team coding relevant information from letters and documents received into patient records using the EMIS software; read, code, action and distribute letters via EMIS workflow; summarise records and assist with audits and searches.

You will also support all work associated with the call and recall of patients for QoF and IIF and other frameworks.

Our Practice consists of 3 GP Partners, 5 Salaried GPs, 5 ANPs, Practice Nurses, Nursing Associates, Healthcare Assistants, Phlebotomist, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, GP Registrars, GP trainees, medical students, pharmacy students and PCN Team; all supported by our administrative teams of receptionists, secretaries, data administrators, administrators, assistant Practice Manager and Business Manager.

Job responsibilities

The core responsibilities of the post are:

  • Coding data in EMIS Web using SNOMED
  • Extracting relevant data from clinical letters and documents and inputting the data into the patient medical record
  • Recording and coding all hospital letters and other clinical correspondence
  • Monitoring call and recall systems to meet QoF, IIF and other condition registers
  • Maintain effective data security and protection at all times
  • Support the practice and the team in the effective use of searches and audits; build searches and interpret data as required
  • Summarise patient records
  • Scan and upload documents as required

You will also be required to:

  • partake in audits as directed by the GP research lead
  • Support your team and wide practice team in all aspects of work associated with QoF, IIF, QP and other frameworks
  • Provide data when requested to support practice meetings.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • GCSE Maths and English grade C or above

Experience

Essential
  • - Experience of working in a primary care GP Practice
  • - Experience and knowledge of clinical coding systems
  • - Experience of working with the general public

Knowledge and Skills

Essential
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills, as an IT user; competent in using MS Office and Outlook
  • Knowledge of EMIS Web
  • Ability to work as a team member; supporting team tasks and targets
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own time
