Infrastructure Engineer

Our client in the Higher Education sector is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable IT Infrastructure Engineer to join their Information Technology Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the university's IT infrastructure. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to supporting the educational and administrative needs of the university community.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Implementation:

  • Develop and deploy scalable, secure, and reliable IT infrastructure solutions, including servers, storage, networking, and cloud services.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and address their infrastructure requirements.
  • Implement and manage virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).

Maintenance and Support:

  • Perform regular maintenance and updates of IT infrastructure components to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely resolution to minimize downtime.
  • Provide advanced technical support and guidance to IT support staff and end-users.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce security protocols to protect university data and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

Documentation and Training:

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to IT staff and end-users on infrastructure-related topics.

Collaboration and Project Management:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including academic departments, administrative offices, and external vendors.
  • Manage infrastructure projects from planning through execution, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with university goals.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in a higher education environment is preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering or a related role.
  • Proven experience with network administration, server management, and cloud services.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and VPNs.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Understanding of cyber security principles and best practices.

Working Conditions:

  • On-site position with occasional remote work flexibility.
