Toolmaker Apprentice (Engineering)

The role of the Toolmaker Apprentice is to assist with the maintenance and repair of injection mould and dip moulding tooling, support in associated engineering activities with the opportunity for advancing into a qualified Toolmaker through internal and external training and development.

Role

  • Maintain and repair existing production mould tooling to a high standard
  • Record and monitor tool repairs
  • Provide technical support to help resolve day-to-day tooling issues
  • Support periodic preventive maintenance activities
  • Develop and utilise skills with Lathes, Milling Machines, Grinders and CNC equipment
  • Keep accurate records of work activities
  • Work closely with engineers to improve processes and increase mould tool reliability and performance
  • Assist with projects within and outside the Toolroom

Training

Qualifications included:

  • Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship Standard. Company Training Plan & Assessment
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
  • Development Competence Qualification (workplace)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - Maths (If required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - English (If required)
  • End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship
  • Opportunity to advance into a qualified Toolmaker role through internal and external training and development
  • This will be conducted under the direction of the Essentra engineers and toolmakers along with external training providers in order to support the development of the apprentice while providing a timely and efficient operation of all plant tooling
