IT Systems Engineer

The IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for manging the SQL databases that underpin our ERP system. This role requires proficiency in SQL, and the ability to translate business needs into technical specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.  They will also support with onsite IT administration.

ERP System Management:

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data from relational databases.
  • Write efficient, SQL code to manage large datasets and ensure data accuracy.
  • Extract and manipulate data to generate meaningful insights and actionable reports for business stakeholders.
  • Design and build custom reports and dashboards using SQL and other data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Conduct regular data audits to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all systems.
  • Implement data validation processes and procedures to identify and correct data issues.
  • Work with the IT supplier to manage database performance, security, and backup/recovery processes.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and procedures for data migration and synchronization.
  • Document SQL queries, data models, and analysis processes to ensure knowledge sharing and consistency.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for data management and analysis within the organization.
  • Analyse current ERP systems and processes to identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct testing and validation of ERP system changes and enhancements.

IT Administrator Duties 

  • Supporting the Customer Experience Manager with all onsite local IT queries
  • Assist users with hardware IT requirements, and deployment of new hardware, including onboarding and offboarding
  • Coordinate changes on telephony system, Epicor, Access DB, network, printers and other IT systems
  • Manage IT documentation including assets lists and procedures 
  • Run onsite maintenance including updates
  • To respond to and resolve faults arising 

Role Specification:

Essential: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent work experience 
  • 2 years experience working with SQL databases and strong understanding of relational database concepts 
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g. Power Bi) 
  • Ability to work with databases and convert these into reports, business queries, dashboards for end users in the organisation 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills 
  • Problem solving mindset to day-to-day IT tasks 

Desirable:

  • Experience working with an ERP system such as SAP or Oracle.  Epicor would be highly desirable 
  • Experience working in a manufacturing organisation 
  • Knowledge of business process mapping

Person Specification: 

  • Able to to work with end users and map their data needs to the data available in Epicor.
  • Commercial awareness to keep focused on end user requirements and timeframes 
  • Systems engineering approach to think about processes for data integrity and maintenance and easy user experience in the future
