Data Architect

Job Purpose:

To work within a team of architects providing support to core infrastructure and business-led projects, offering specific data architecture expertise to solution and enterprise architects.

The appointed individual will be a key member of the Architecture Team, responsible for ensuring all initiatives consider data as part of their approach and that all elements of the data lifecycle are adequately provisioned. They will participate in the design and implementation of the enterprise data strategy, ensuring it supports current and future business needs. The role involves collaborating with Business and IT stakeholders to ensure the enterprise data strategy and its implementation add value to the business.

Major Tasks and Activities:

Develop and evolve the enterprise data strategy to support corporate objectives.
Act as a key stakeholder and advisor in new strategic data initiatives.
Influence core system development decisions around data storage, integration, aggregation, and access.
Create a framework of principles to ensure data integrity across the business.
Guide the organization in making business, technology, and data decisions for value for money and reduced risk.
Align the Data Architecture strategy and roadmap with business and technology strategies.
Build and maintain Enterprise Architecture artifacts such as Entity Relationship Models and interface catalogues.
Design enterprise-level data ontologies supporting key business initiatives like asset management and training.
Provide technical oversight to solution delivery, ensuring adherence to data governance standards.
Advocate for data security principles and ensure security practices are embedded in data strategy.
Support third-party data suppliers in developing solutions aligned with the Enterprise data architecture.
Collaborate with stakeholders to align business, technology, and data decisions with the enterprise architecture strategy.
Develop models and plans to drive business strategy execution, improving business performance.
Review systems capability strategies to meet strategic requirements.
Conduct horizon scanning to identify emerging trends and their potential impact.
Collaborate on global projects to deliver solutions meeting international requirements.
Person Specification:

Experienced IT professional with a bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field.
Strong technical, analytical, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Experience in system architecture, data warehousing, data transformation processes, and supporting technologies.
Knowledgeable in cloud and on-premise data solutions, problem-solving, and data modeling.
Experienced in consulting on various technologies and industry best practices in data architecture.
Capable of working under pressure with strong time management, ownership skills, and a can-do attitude.
Security Criteria:

MOD SC Security clearance
Other security clearances as required by contracts (e.g., Met Policy Security clearance, CRB)
