Proposed interview date 10th Sept 2024
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a Psychologist to join and lead our Pain Self Management Team. They will also lead and develop our Psychology services within Chronic Illness, where there is lots of scope for development. Day to day the job involves a good mix of clinical work (about 2 days a week), and time for operational management and leadership, with plenty of autonomy. We currently have Psychology services in ME/CFS and Dermatology. There are opportunities for this to be expanded as there are many services within the Trust that have no Psychology input.
The Pain Self Management team is part of wider Chronic Pain Services in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, and we work with 9 supportive Chronic Pain Consultants in our 2 local Trusts. Our MDT includes Physio and Prescribing Nurses and, most important, a great admin team. The Clinical Health Psychology Department has a wide range of services, and about 25 Counselling, Clinical and Health psychologist colleagues mostly based in the same building as Pain Management. That gives the post a base in the MDT and in the Psychology service, with lots of opportunities for linking across services. Clinical supervision is valued and there is good support for development and training, including access to a training budget. There are exciting developments in the literature describing new ways to help people with chronic pain.
