Data & Analytics Senior Manager
Job summary
The Data and Analytics Senior Manager will be responsible for the development and realisation of NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) strategic programmes regarding Data and Analytics, underpinned by operational oversight of activities within this function. This role leads the Regional RDN (RRDN) Data and Analytics team, which forms part of the national RDN Data and Analytics unit, who collectively work to deliver national projects alongside regional priorities and innovation.
This role will be responsible for the prioritisation, planning and delivery of reporting and digital solutions which facilitate and underpin all services and functions of the RDN, as well as regional implementation of national initiatives. Given the Data and Analytics function enables all RDN functions and services, the postholder will be required to work with a wide range of RRDN internal and external stakeholders to understand their requirements and implement solutions. In their position as a member of the RDN Data and Analytics function, the Data and Analytics Senior Manager will work with RRDN and RDN Coordinating Centre (RDNCC) peers, as well as senior external stakeholders, to deliver complex, high priority, system wide projects.

About us
From October 2024, the current NIHR Clinical Research Network will be changing to become the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN). The RDN will build on the successes of the CRN in supporting the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health and care system in England for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy. The RDN will support:
- Clinical trials and other well-designed health and social care research studies (including studies that are delivered outside of an NHS setting);
- Public health studies that require the recruitment of individuals within an NHS setting (that is, acute, ambulance, mental health, community or primary care) or an episode of care which involves contact with the NHS.

Job responsibilities
- Lead on Data and Analytics projects across the RRDN geography
- Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the RRDN Data and Analytics Function
- Manage the Data and Analytics team, including line management of the band 7 Data and Analytics Lead. Lead the development of organisational capability through good people management, training and development, mentoring and coaching
- Manage the contributions of stakeholders as part of a project management structure for specific projects, as required
- Lead on the analysis and reporting of RDN key information to support the operational management and strategic development of the RDN
- Work with Study Support Service colleagues, devise, implement and manage procedures to ensure that RRDN key information is collected reliably and efficiently, and to ensure that information or datasets are full, accurate and up-to-date. This will include the investigation, analysis and resolution of data queries and problems
- Maintain a high-level of contemporary knowledge in relation to research and trial management Data and Analytics and local, national and international developments in this area.
- Be responsible for the provision of training for RRDN staff and stakeholders related to NIHR systems, reporting and digital solutions. Working with Workforce and Learning colleagues and the Data and Analytics forum to ensure new training is developed and materials are updated
- Act as the main liaison for RRDN LPMS provider(s) regarding contract management, user feedback, timely system development, training of staff in RRDN research Delivery Organisations on the use of LPMS
Person Specification
Knowledge/Qualifications
- Masters level qualification or equivalent experience
- Background in research and development, science or healthcare
- European Computer Driving Licence
Experience
- An in depth understanding of the UK health research system, including the NIHR
- Significant experience with and knowledge of solutions for data visualisation and analytics. Able to use judgement and apply complex analysis with an understanding of relationships within data that lead to business intelligence insights and efficiency increases
- An understanding of and experience with using Agile concepts/methodology
- Significant experience with Microsoft and Google platforms
- Proven experience of working successfully as part of several teams
- Proven staff management experience with the ability to gain their support, motivate and develop them
- Experience of managing a customer-focused service
- Professional leadership at an operational level
- Experienced at project management, with a good understanding of the complexities involved
- Demonstration of strategic thinking and strategy development
- Experience of managing a significant budget and associated resources in line with organisational policies and ensuring value for money
- An understanding of the importance of demographic and health-related trends (and datasets) of the region's population, to help inform strategic development within the RDN
- Experience of delivering and driving transformation programmes in a positive and proactive way, and to motivate, support and coach colleagues and stakeholders through change
