Our Senior Systems Developer will provide support to the Data Services department's data integration and management work, including developing data models, developing and maintaining web and windows applications, and writing .NET services enabling data integration that supports the operations of the Data and Analytic Services function. The role will work closely and collaboratively with members of the Analytic Services team who together, make up the Data and Analytic Services function. This will involve defining requirements, surfacing and analysing data, integrating data from a variety of sources (structured and semi-structured), and deploying high quality data applications in support of the analytics needs of the Trust.

We are seeking an experienced .NET Systems Developer to support both programme and project development work and to provide ongoing support to production applications.

Main duties of the job

1. Designing, developing, and implementing highly complex, specialist, information systems to meet the needs of the organisation.

2. Coordinating development activities (e.g. code access security, continuous optimisation, developer training, design review, functional testing etc.) for the purpose of ensuring data accuracy and quality monitoring, in compliance with Trust policies and security procedures.

3. Acting as a liaison between the business and the development team, translating business requirements into technical requirements and translating and communicating technical issues for the business.

4. Identifying system requirements by interviewing stakeholders; analyse and document departmental applications, programming, and operations; evaluate existing systems and design proposed systems.

5. Translating system requirements into manageable user stories, along with associated acceptance criteria.

6. Analysing, investigating and resolving system issues, providing appropriate solutions and ensuring applications remain available and accessible. In the event of system failure to return the application to an operational state.

7. Continuously monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of all application resources; identifying opportunities for improvement and providing recommendations to appropriate third parties.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent in knowledge and experience.
  • In possession of a postgraduate diploma qualification in informatics or computing, or equivalent in knowledge and experience.
  • Additional specialist procedural knowledge of systems development to enable design and development across a range of areas.
Desirable
  • Additional specialist procedural knowledge of systems development to enable design and development across a range of areas.
  • Training in HL7 / FHIR.

Experience

Essential
  • Demonstrated experience of managing and coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
  • Significant experience in eliciting requirements from end users and turning these requirements into functional user stories.
  • Significant experience of managing the complete systems development life cycle.
  • Significant experience of object-relational and relational database design as well as schema and query optimisation.
  • Experience in the use of the Visual Studio IDE or Visual Studio Code for developing applications in C# with .NET Core.
  • Experience of designing and building scalable and secure systems.
  • Experience in using tools to validate CSS and XHTML and cross browser testing to ensure adherence to Government guidelines.
  • Experience of relational database design and programming using SQL.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining large-scale Relational Database systems utilising Microsoft SQL Server.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of design patterns and an ability to articulate these.
