Pathology Systems Co-ordinator - Jersey - £65K-£73K

Job summary

Manage a portfolio of complex digital systems across the pathology laboratories, including maintenance and support, development, change implementation and project management, facilitating prompt and appropriate diagnosis and treatment of disease, reducing disease prevalence and promoting health.

Main duties of the job

  • Leads on the delivery of a portfolio of complex digital projects, ensuring that appropriate plans, methods, governance and reporting are in place, and providing challenge, in order to support project objectives and realise target benefits.
  • Establish an understanding of the operational aims of the pathology department, identifying cultural, organisational and business constraints, using evidence, experience and professional judgement to provide advice on risks, opportunities and project options for the development and enhancement of systems.
  • Manages engagement strategies and discussions with internal and external stakeholders, being transparent about competing priorities and challenges, in order to persuade, negotiate and manage expectations to support and develop interoperability between systems.
  • Manage, develop and motivate colleagues, acting as a team leader for the systems leads from each laboratory section, providing informal coaching and support with advanced systems concepts, to develop their capabilities in designing and delivering digital change to ensure optimum delivery of project objectives. Implements replacement systems, applications, interfaces and middleware, engaging and coordinating with suppliers and internal subject matter experts to deliver functional systems within agreed budget and timescales.

Job responsibilities

  • Design, prototype and implement validation protocols and test scripts, working within established quality management and change control systems, and recording results, to ensure functionality and performance are in line with requirements, specifications and accreditation standards.
  • Conduct post-implementation review, document and manage nonconformity and implement improvements when necessary.
  • Be a point of contact for system issues, developing expert knowledge of pathology systems, logging, escalating, providing advice and technical support, and liaising with internal and external support structures, to ensure the functionality of systems through their whole life cycle.
  • Production of highly specialised informatics reports and statistics, and design and maintenance of reporting complex queries, and data quality, to provide management information, and an evidence base for system development decisions and project governance.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the maintenance and administration of systems including amended users, new and amended test codes, comments, samples, panels, doctors etc.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to degree level in computer information systems or biomedical science, with additional training to Masters level, or equivalent experience, in a discipline relevant to pathology IT systems.
  • Additional certification in people, process or project management (e.g. PRINCE2 or Lean)

Experience

Essential
  • Experience of working autonomously in a role involving specialist systems in a relevant setting, acquired over approximately six years
  • Experience in the planning, management and delivery of digital change projects
  • Expertise in business analysis, continuous improvement, and project management methodologies
  • Demonstrable track record of successful delivery of digital projects across the full lifecycle, including planning, implementation, benefits realisation and review
  • Experience of leading supervising and motivating a team
