The UK Defence Solutions Centre (UKDSC) is a private/publicly funded organisation focused on delivering three broad themes: international marketing intelligence, identifying future defence capability requirements and provision of insights to identify innovative ways to deliver investment into the defence sector and aligning government and industry investments to generate increased value.
The UKDSC Data Science Team deliver structured analysis via dashboards in Power BI on 3 key themes:
Investment, patent and academic data; Exploration and assessment of both new and existing data sources; Data engineering and ETL management interfaces.

Data Scientist - What You’ll Do:
- Analyse broad range of datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
- Develop and enhance Python based ETL pipelines.
- Explore and assess new data within both new and existing data sources.
- Provision of data to analysts through web-based interfaces.
- Development and delivery of detailed analysis on key themes in Power BI (Tableau skills considered if candidates to not have Power BI).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and provide data-driven solutions.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders in clear, concise reports and presentations.
- Develop validation tools to ensure accuracy of developed code.
- Proven ability to ensure all activities in accordance with best practice to ensure validity of insights.
Data Scientist - What We’re Looking For:
- Must be a British Citizen in order to achieve required level of Security Clearance (SC Level).
- Strong background in statistics, mathematics, data science modelling with relevant Degree.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
- Sound knowledge of Pandas, Spark or similar data libraries.
- Familiarity with Azure functions, AWS Lambda or similar serverless environments
- Comfortable learning new Python libraries.
- Skilled in Git version control (GitHub preferred).
- Flask/Django experience.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- An interest in or experience in the defence sector
