Due to the continued expansion of Hobbs services, an exciting role has arisen for an enthusiastic Neurological Occupational Therapist to join our specialist therapy team at Hobbs Rehabilitation, the largest independent provider of specialist neurological rehabilitation to adults in the south of England. We are looking for someone with excellent clinical skills and experience in neurological rehabilitation across the clinical pathway, including assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning. This role would be suited to someone looking to develop their skills in adult Neurology but would also be appropriate for a dynamic and enthusiastic newly qualified therapist with relevant placement experience.

Main duties of the job

This role will be at Laverstock Inpatient Rehab Unit in Salisbury as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, working with clients who have complex neurological conditions including Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injuries and Spinal Injuries. There may be the opportunity for outpatient and community work alongside the inpatient caseload, as well as working alongside therapists at other local Hobbs clinics. Supervision and training will be provided, as well as access to exciting CPD opportunities, including working with advanced neurotechnologies and involvement in national and global research projects.

The Role:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assessing patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments using a range of formal and informal assessments.
  • Practice safely within the legal and ethical boundaries of the profession.
  • Formulate patient-centred goals in conjunction with MDT.
  • Create and provide one-to-one intervention to patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments, using a comprehensive knowledge of evidence-informed practice and treatment options.
  • Evaluate patients progress using published outcome measures.
  • Liaising regularly with the Hobbs MDT and wider care team.
  • Organise and plan the Occupational therapy caseload at Laverstock Neuro rehab unit in conjunction with the service lead and other clinical team members to meet the patients and service needs, readjusting plans as situations change or arise.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures.
  • Write high-quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports for inpatients.
  • Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.

Skills & Experience

  • Recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
  • Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment approaches relating to acquired neurological conditions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of working as an integrated member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Neurological rehabilitation experience across the clinical pathway.
  • Commitment to developing self and others through training, supervision and mentoring.
  • Innovative and creative thinking with vision to improve and develop services for the future.
  • Confidence engaging with local community services including facilitating patients within the community.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service.
  • Experience of Neurological splinting and work with spinal cord injuries would be a bonus

The successful candidate must have a full clean driving licence and be prepared to travel to training and community visits.

Experience

Essential
  • Experience working within an MDT
  • Experience of working as an OT within an adult neuro caseload (placement experience would be sufficient)
  • Experience of assessment, diagnosis, therapy planning and discharge management with adults with neurological conditions
Desirable
  • Post-graduate adult neuro experience
  • Further training in specialist areas such as splinting, upper limb management or cognitive rehab

Qualifications

Essential
  • Recognised Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • RCOT membership
Desirable
  • Post-graduate training in adult neurology

Knowledge and Skills

Essential
  • Excellent written and verbal clinical communication skills
  • Ability to drive and full clean driving licence
  • Basic IT skills appropriate for clinical practice
