Research and Development Apprentice

The Research and Development team is within the Engineering department and works closely with the Production department to deliver products to Navies around the world. You will be required to assemble and test valves, actuators and related components, fault find and much more.

Role

Day to day duties will include:

  • Working closely with the production department
  • Assembly and test of valves, actuators and related components
  • First-off build and development of new products
  • Fault investigation of non-performing products
  • Carrying out specialist prototype tests

The job role will be:

  • 30% Building valves
  • 40% Investigating valves
  • 20% Specialist testing
  • 10% Administrative tasks

Training

This is a level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship (Product Design pathway) delivered over a period of four years
You will be required to attend the training centre, In-Comm Training Services in Aldridge WS9 8UG, part time 2.5 days a week

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Product  Design and Development

Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be opportunity for continuous training and development and further education qualification if desired, there may be leadership roles to progress into.
