An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Group Digital Division as a Clinical Applications Specialist. The post holder will lead on the efficient delivery of a second line support service for our clinical and non-clinical applications, focusing on the delivery to internal service level agreements. You will also be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of application based projects such as new implementations and upgrades.

The ability to travel between the Kettering General and Northampton General Hospital sites will be a requirement.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Applications Specialist, you will:

  • Lead on designated areas of responsibility to support the Clinical Applications Team Leaders to ensure system downtime is minimised and associated risks are mitigated.
  • Lead on designated areas of responsibility towards the planning of improvements to ensure systems are reliable and resilient, and that robust arrangements for maintenance are in place and regularly reviewed.
  • Using your specialist knowledge of these systems, workflows, diagnostic processes, and the legislative framework that surround their use, you will carry out investigations, analyse the presenting situation to ensure resolution of complex service issues / faults.
  • Take the lead on configuration and build optimisation for new and existing clinical applications.

We are looking for a flexible, self-motivated and organised individual with a keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritise workload and deliver to deadlines.

You must be able to demonstrate analytical thinking and have the ability to work through problems to a resolution, with experience in communicating effectively with different stakeholders.

Working hours are Monday to Friday between 08:00 to 17.00 on a rota. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to meet the demands of a 24/7 organisation, as well as occasionally work outside of the core working hours to support configuration changes and system upgrades. The post holder will participate in an on call service available to the Group.

Education, Training & Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to Degree education or equivalent level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
Desirable
  • ITIL Certification or relevant experience or working in an ITIL environment
  • Evidence of experience or qualification in one or more of the following: SQL / SQL Server, HL7 Interfaces, Reporting tools (e.g. Business Objects), Windows Server Administration

Knowledge & Experience

Essential
  • Professional experience providing support for Clinical Applications
  • Demonstrable understanding of clinical workflows relevant to EPR in NHS setting.
  • Experience of digital/IT clinical systems change/project management while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality
  • Experience in contributing to the success of a multi-disciplinary team as effective team member
  • Advanced systems development skills and technical knowledge across a broad range of clinical systems and software
  • Experience of contributing to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of NHS IT systems and services
  • Knowledge of digital healthcare standards and NHS datasets and their relationship to coding, finance and commissioning
  • Knowledge of clinical risk management policies and processes
Desirable
  • Experience of developing and executing testing plans
