Job summary
To deliver a market-leading digital pathology platform and solutions, NPICs digital pathology service is underpinned by Information Technology and supported by central funding from NHS England, Innovate UK and the Office for Life Sciences in-excess. With a number of Trusts currently utilising its services, NPIC has a pipeline of over 30 NHS Trusts looking to adopt its digital platform.
You will play a key role in the delivery of a high-quality digital pathology programme, platform and associated operations and services. This requires an individual who is driven, ambitious and passionate about patient care, and who has a desire to influence at the highest levels working in close partnership with senior clinical and managerial staff.
The post holder will be responsible for the successful implementation of I.T. systems, the on-going day-to-day management and the successful implementation of key future developments. The post holder will work alongside clinicians and health professionals to redesign current working practice/process during system implementations

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the successful implementation of I.T. systems, the on-going day-to-day management and the successful implementation of key future developments. The post holder will work alongside clinicians and health professionals to redesign current working practice/process during system implementations.
The post holder will liaise with senior managers, clinicians and system users across a national footprint with, directorates and partner organisations. The post holder will work with partners and the local Informatics Departments to assist in the development of any necessary interfaces. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for the provision of an effective, efficient and robust information capture and analysis service to meet national, regional and local business requirements and essentially improve recording and reporting for the patients and services in the Trust.
The post holder will work closely with the Digital Pathology Systems Lead to ensure that the system is effectively implemented, maintained and developed liaising closely with clinical, technical and system development staff and system suppliers.
The post holder will be responsible for the on-going management of the system, managing access, maintaining reference tables, and the production of good quality information to support national and local requirements.

The National Pathology Imaging Co-operative (NPIC) programme, a £100m+ initiative supported by central funding from NHS England, Innovate UK and the Office for Life Sciences. NPIC has the ambition to provide a national platform to support pathology services.
The ambitions of the programme include:
1) Driving clinical use of digital pathology nationally and providing a platform to support this;
2) Designing, building and maintaining a platform for the development of artificial intelligence and the evaluation of the AI lifecycle
3) Providing a platform for further research & innovation and maximising the platform to facilitate this.

Job responsibilities
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Ensure that clinical data is captured and entered in a timely manner.
Devise and implement procedures for monitoring data quality.
Train clinical and non-clinical staff in the use of the I.T. System.
Work with clinical teams to understand their routine and ad hoc reporting requirements, develop and implement the necessary reports.
Analyse and investigate problems relating to data and information and choose optimal solutions from a range of alternatives
Investigate and resolve data mismatches (from interfaced systems).
Manage access to the system on behalf of the specialties / Clinical Directorate.
Provide guidance & support to the users of the system.
Responsible for first line trouble shooting for external customers
Propose new working practices in line with process changes.
Responsible for introducing, adapting, and improving information systems to input, store and disseminate information
Liaise with Informatics staff for best practice guidance and ensure the system is administered in accordance with this.
Liaise with Informatics staff when more sophisticated statistical capability is required.
Liaise with the Internal Development Team and/or system suppliers in the event of system problems.
Liaise with the Internal Development Team and/or system suppliers for the acceptance testing & implementation of new software releases.
Other duties as commensurate with the grade and role as agreed with line manager.
Instigate a variety of data extracts to both internal departments and external organisations.
Work to agreed objectives and do this within professional and organisational policies and guidelines.
To play an active role in the I.T. system implementation which will include:
Contribute to the development of the system pathway which compliments the clinical & administrative pathways.
Become an expert user of the new I.T. system
Implement appropriate contingency processes.
Define, produce and present reports.
Work with clinical staff and the clinical coding department to define code tables.
Define & implement procedures for performance monitoring.
Work with the service(s) to define and agree any data interchange standards for exchanging patient level data with General Practitioners
Improve processes and aiding the specialties / Clinical Directorates in meeting performance improvement targets.
Enhance the patient experience wherever possible.
Promote the work of the departments locally and around the region.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in IM&T, or equivalent experience in the relevant field.
Experience
- Professional knowledge of the services provided by the Trust, the range of technology in use and the potential for integrating data from a range of devices/systems.
- Experience of working with IT Systems and a proven understanding (e.g. Certificates of competence/attendance on courses or qualifications e.g. ECDL, Microsoft Packages, Advanced RSA) etc. or equivalen
- Experience of testing system software, recording and prioritising system faults.
- Experience of producing and maintaining system documentation to the required IM&T standards
- Excellent communication skills. They must be able to communicate to managers and users of the information and articulate any constraints that the information may hold.
- A good understanding of the role of Digital Pathology Systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with users about impact of system changes and new releases
- Experience of HL7 v2.3 messaging standards.
