Band 5-6 Developmental Clinical Associate Psychologist Apprentice

Job summary

Band 5 apprenticeship leading to band 6 following successful completion of the programme (indicative banding)

We are inviting applicants for this exciting new role within Leicestershire Partnership Trust Adult Learning Disabilities Service. The Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) is offered as a Master Level Apprenticeship.

This opportunity is open to graduate psychologists holding a degree in Psychology (2:2 minimum requirement) this qualification will fill an identified skills gap between assistant psychologists and qualified clinical psychologists. They are able to practice autonomously with appropriate support, working within their scope of practice, under the supervision of a registered clinical psychologist.

CAP apprentices will be working alongside qualified Clinical, Forensic, Counselling Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists as part of the psychological services contribution to the locality multidisciplinary community teams across Leicester, LEICESTERSHIRE and Rutland. Clinical bases for this programme will be discussed at interview.

We are looking to recruit 1 CAP to work within our Adult learning disabilities service. Posts in the CAPs are trained to work with specific populations and therefore provide a more prescribed range of activities than Clinical Psychologists. They will be a valued addition to our multi-disciplinary community teams within the service.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Associate in Psychology role is a new psychology career pathway in its own right, therefore the selection process will aim to recruit those suitable for and committed to training for this role, rather than those who might be seeking interim experience to support their applications for Clinical or Counselling doctoral training.

As this opportunity is offered as an Apprenticeship all training costs are paid for by the employer.

This new role will make a positive impact on enhancing the current workforce provision serving the mental health needs of the nation. The CAPs are a flexible workforce, competent in the planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based psychological interventions.

CAPs on successful completion of the apprenticeship programme will continue in the same team as a Band 6 Clinical Associate Psychologist.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have a commitment to working in the local region, from those with diverse backgrounds and from people who bring lived experience relevant to mental health work.

We are expecting a high number of applicants for these positions and the advert will therefore close when we have a sufficient number of candidates.
