Role & responsibilities
- Understand and follow detailed work instructions / SOP’s
- Ensure that all station operations are complete to the required quality standard
- Ensure that all operations are complete in the required timescale (Takt time)
- Work as part of a team on the definition and solution of problems that may be affecting the quality, cost, or productivity
- Attend the workplace on a regular and timely basis, informing the Team Leader of any lateness or unplanned absence in a timely manner
- Ensure the work area is clean, tidy, and orderly always in line with McLaren expectations
- Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and team members
- Participate in continuous improvement activities as requested
- Understand and adhere to the McLaren Values and help grow the company
- Assisting with the design and manufacture of composite materials, including layup, cutting, bonding, and curing
- Operating and maintaining equipment used in composite production, such as cutting tools, vacuum pumps, and autoclaves
- Assisting in the preparation of moulds and tooling for composite parts
- Learning and adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Keeping track of inventory and ordering supplies as necessary
- Collaborating with other team members to meet project deadlines and quality standards
- Conducting tests and inspections to ensure the quality of finished products
- Maintaining accurate records of production activities and materials used
Training
You will study on a Level 3 Composite Technician standard. On completion of this, you will gain:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
