Associate Practitioner (Biochemistry)

Job summary

MFT hosts one of the largest diagnostic Biochemistry services within the NHS. The Directorate of Biochemistry resides within the division of laboratory medicine and currently comprises of laboratories across Oxford Road, Wythenshawe, Trafford and North Manchester Hospitals. Collectively the laboratories provide a diverse range of complex and specialist services for both adults and paediatrics, with MFT being a large tertiary referral centre and university teaching hospital.

We have exciting opportunities at all our Biochemistry laboratories across all sites including NBS and POCT for enthusiastic and highly motivated Associate Practitioners who have experience within Biochemistry and possess a passion for clinical excellence, quality and a drive for career development. The post holders will provide support to Biomedical Scientists, who provide scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis. The successful candidates will undertake a wide range of analytical procedures, performing manual, semi-automated and automated tests.

The successful candidates will join our IT transformation journey with MFT providing commonality of platforms and processes and also robustness and business continuity across our sites. They will also be undertaking a Level 6 Healthcare Science or Biomedical Science Apprenticeship. Following successful completion of apprenticeship, progression will be supported when possible.

Main duties of the job

We're looking for an enthusiastic, aspirational and highly motivated Associate Practitioners who have experience within the Biochemistry department and a passion for clinical excellence, quality and a drive for career development to join our Biochemistry department. The role will involve routine processing of analytical samples, training and development of the support staff, and involvement in maintaining protocols on the section in line with ISO 15189 such as reagent control, documentation, quality assurance, audit processes and general overall performance whilst undertaking L6 HCS Apprenticeship. As a progressive department, we currently provide a significant amount of specialist services to both clinical users and external laboratories and invest in staff development offering support and encouragement in CPD with the opportunity to attend approved seminars and external courses when available.

The department is looking for full time applicants, the post will be static at a primary site, however, you may be expected to attend the other sites for meetings, portfolio experience and service requirements.

The department has full IBMS training status for pre and post registration IBMS portfolios and full ISO 15189 accreditation.
