Main duties of the job

The position entails the line management of the Information Governance Officer, Information Governance Administrators, and Information Governance Assistants. The successful applicant will oversee the team's daily operations, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and legal deadlines.

The role assists the Information Governance Manager in promoting data protection and security awareness within the Trust, from providing ad hoc advice and guidance to developing training plans and contributing to Data Protection Impact Assessments.

Essential skills and duties include the capacity to independently plan and manage one's workload and adhere to strict deadlines. Dealing with intricate information governance demands necessitates:

- The ability to discern central or underlying issues in complex scenarios and address problems proactively.

- Proficiency in word processing, email, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.

- Strong organizational and communication abilities.

- Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills.

- The skill to meet tight deadlines with precise information delivery.

- Numerical aptitude and the precision to handle data.

- Familiarity with project management approaches, such as the PRINCE2 methodology.

Job responsibilities

Line management ofthe Information Governance Officer, Information Governance Administrators and Information Governance Assistants

Responsible for the completion and maintenance of a database to record and track Subject Access Requests, Access to Records requests and requests for information made by the Police or a Court Order.

Responsible for the completion and maintenance of a database to record and track FOIA application.

Daily oversight of team activities, information request processes, and compliance with targets and legal deadlines

Ensure evidence progress to meet Standards Met for the Data Security & Protection Toolkit.

Provide expert guidance and advice on IG matters to Trust staff, including ways of redesigning processes to enhance service delivery and patient care, to ensure the business requirements of the Trust are met.

Lead or assist with investigations into complaints and incidents relating to breaches of the Data Protection Act and other privacy legislation.

PromoteData Protection awareness throughout the organisation by developing and providing training, written procedures and guidance.Please see the attachment for full job description covering detailed responsibilities.

Person Specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential
  • A Levels or equivalent
  • Information Governance specialist qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant subject

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and UK GDPR, and their application in practice
  • Evidence of continuous professional training and development
  • Experience of managing staff
Desirable
  • Experience of working in an information governance or adjacent role
  • Good understanding of the Data Security & Protection Toolkit
  • Experience of working within the NHS or healthcare
  • Experience processing Subject Access Requests and Freedom of Information Requests

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
