IT Network Engineer

We're seeking a passionate IT Network Engineer to be responsible for designing, deploying and maintaining the organisations network infrastructure. Working in across-functional team to deliver robust networking solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisations network architecture.

Our client is an enterprise organisation that plays a significant role in the UK's healthcare industry. Offering a Hybrid/Remote role with a few days a month to be on site - so required live locally to Bristol.

Description

  • Network Design and Implementation

Design, deploy, and manage network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, WLAN and SD-WAN solutions

Configure and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers in HA designs

Implement network solutions to meet performance, scalability, and security requirements

  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting

Monitor network performance and availability using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or other packet-capture/investigatory technology

Diagnose and resolve complex network issues, ensuring minimal downtime

Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures for recurring issues

  • Security and Compliance

Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS)

Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best-practices (GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, CIS)

Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and implement security patches and updates

  • Collaboration and Documentation

Work closely with other IT teams across the business and across the wider organisation to support projects and resolve cross-functional technical challenges

Document network configurations, processes and troubleshooting procedures

Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and support staff

  • Continuous Improvement

Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies and tools

Develop and implement strategies to improve network efficiency and reliability

Stay updated on emerging trends in networking and cybersecurity

Profile

A successful IT Network Engineer should have:

  • 5+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure, with at least 3 years focused on network infrastructure

  • Expertise in configuring and managing enterprise networking equipment from vendors like Cisco, Palo Alto
  • Strong understanding of routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and switching technologies (e.g. VLAN, STP)
  • Experience with network security tools and protocols (e.g. firewalls, VPNs, SSL/TLS, NAC (ISE))
  • Familiarity with cloud networking solutions (e.g. Azure Virtual Network)
  • Multi-disciplined capability across key Infrastructure systems (e.g. working with hybrid Active Directory connected systems, on-premises datacentres and hardware as well as cloud-hosted solutions, and handling the secure integration of core / network systems with the various types of endpoints and devices across the estate)
  • Knowledge of wireless networking (e.g. Meraki WiFi design, configuration and troubleshooting, Cisco WLC)
  • Proficiency in networking automation tools and scripting (e.g. Python, Ansible)
  • Experience with enterprise-level, regulated industry policies and expectations (desirable)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
