We are seeking to recruit a dedicated and detail-oriented Violence & Aggression reduction management professional, to be part of our evolving friendly team of Health and Safety advice, support and scrutiny competent specialists.

Working within the Corporate Services Health and Safety Team, you must be passionate about creating and maintaining a safe workplace, while ensuring trust compliance with its general health & safety obligations and good practice requirements with a technical specialism and focus to violence and aggression reduction management.

Main duties of the job

The role is a newly created corporate position that will allow you to develop your skills by being creative, whilst exploring new and emerging V&AR management processes and systems and policy development. You will have a hands-on integrated approach supporting management, staff and contractors.

Provide subject leadership and advice/guidance for the Trust Violence and Aggression reduction agenda, ensuring all arrangements for quality, performance, governance and safety for ongoing services development and delivery of training.

Be part of the Trusts Corporate Health and Safety Team and subject lead regarding the Trust violence and aggression reduction agenda; with the aim of eliminating or reducing the risk of violence and aggressive incidences within the trust so far as is reasonably practicable.

Ensure that a range of techniques, methods, policies, and procedures are competently drafted and in place to ensure the safety of staff, patients and others affected by the trusts activities so far as is reasonably practicable and are reviewed/amended as appropriate.

Be part of the implementation of the Trusts Health and Safety Agenda across the organisation and to provide advice/guidance/support to management and staff in all areas of health and safety policy, good practice and regulatory compliance as appropriate.

Job responsibilities

Trusts violence and aggression risk reduction subject Lead, Responsible Person, and Subject Matter Expert.

Assisting the Trust Head of Health and Safety with the development and implementation of relevant Health and Safety Policy E.G. Restraint and Restrictive Practices Policy etc.

Specialist/Lead

  • The post-holder will be responsible for supporting/deputising as appropriate for the Trust Head of Health and Safety and for the collaborative development of strategies regarding the Trusts Violence and Aggression risk/incident reduction agenda.
  • The post holder will be the subject matter expert (for internal and external stakeholders) retaining and developing expertise to develop linkages across the various elements of the Trusts undertakings.

Patient safety

  • Promote good practice and prevent adverse effects to patients and staff through contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of related policies.
  • Work with key stakeholders (E.G. Patient safety, Security, Estates & Facilities, Head of Occupational Health, Staff Health and Wellbeing, Infections Control, Union Safety Representatives, etc.) in the identification and development of systems and arrangements for staff wellbeing in relation to Violence and aggression and restraint reduction issues.

Financial & Physical Resources

  • The post holder is responsible for managing monitoring and maintaining role specific allocated resources/budget E.G. V&A training in line with the Trust financial governance policies.
  • The post will be responsible for the needs identification, procurement, and maintenance of all relevant equipment e.g. training aides etc.

Staff supervisory responsibility

  • The post holder will oversee the Violence and Aggression work being carried out by the teams Health and Safety Coordinator and assumes an indirect supervisory responsibility in this regard.

Qualifications & knowledge

Essential
  • Post-graduate qualification (Level 6/7) or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Level 3 Qualification in Conflict Management or equivalent or 3-year experience of advanced working within in a similar discipline
  • Committed to continued professional Development
  • Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace
Desirable
  • Technical Member level or above of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health
  • Member of the Institute of Conflict Management
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate

Experience

Essential
  • Knowledge in Health & Safety legislation and conflict management good practice requirements
  • Experience of planning and delivering health and safety management training programmes
  • Experience of liaising, influencing, engaging and advising management across a large and diverse organisation
  • Experience of development, implementation and monitoring senior level action plans across an organisation
  • Experience of multi professional working arrangements.
  • Able to problem solve complex risk assessments demonstrating analytical and judgement skills
  • Able to analyse risks and identify triggers that lead violence and aggression in relation to clinical environments
  • Knowledge of education and training evaluation methodologies
Desirable
  • Experience of working within the NHS or Heath/Social Care or Public or Charitable sectors
  • Experience of undertaking organisation-wide audits / reviews and feeding back results via action plans and recommendations
  • Experience of managing people / live projects / strategic planning
  • Accident/incident investigation experience
  • Experience of managing the development, design and delivery of Conflict Management training and awareness programmes to audiences of a variable size and grades
  • Experience of restraint reduction and delivering complex training strategies to support a culture of reducing restrictive interventions
