The Strategic Analysis team supports NHS England to understand and solve many of the NHS's most important strategic challenges, ultimately improving outcomes for patients.Strategic Analysis is a cross-disciplinary team of technical specialists in economics, behavioural science and other analytical professions. The team operates as an in-house project-based consultancy, working across analytical and professional boundaries, including specialist skills of colleagues across Advanced Analytics.We typically collaborate with policy and programme teams in NHS England and across the NHS, to translate strategy and analysis into real-world impact. We use a range of different methods, including econometric modelling, other advanced quantitative analysis, experimental methods, and qualitative research. Examples of our work include modelling of the drivers of NHS productivity and efficiency, the impact of health on work and employment, advanced data science approaches to improve cancer screening, and economies of scale modelling.
Main duties of the job
The team's projects focus towards areas that require advanced technical or strategic skills, often from economics or behavioural science. The Strategic Analysis team have a range of backgrounds and we seek to ensure an appropriate mix to deliver our work.We are currently recruiting to two permanent band 6 specialist economist roles. For these roles, we are seeking individuals with specialist economics skills and knowledge. This will include an understanding of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory. It also includes a strong track record of applying this theory and associated frameworks to understand, analyse and solve strategic problems. Sifting criteriaApplications will be assessed based on the following criteria:- Educated to degree level in economics or an equivalent subject, or equivalent experience of working as an economist.- Educated to post-graduate level in a relevant area, or equivalent experience of working in a specialist area.- Strong written and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering ideas and concepts concisely to a range of audiences within and beyond policy settings, such as the public, patients and staff.- Strong analytical skills with ability to analyse very complex strategic issues where material is conflicting and drawn from multiple sources.- Ability to work flexibly across a range of projects and manage own workload

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
