Exemplar Service Lead

Job summary

The NHS Digital Academy has an opportunity for an Exemplar Service Lead to join our product team. We're looking for an experienced product manager and strong strategic thinker who is expert in turning user research into achievable learning outcomes. Ideally, you'll be an experienced DDaT professional who enjoys teaching what you know.

The Digital Academy exists to support the continued digital transformation of the NHS through education and training. Our product team is responsible for planning, creating and delivering impactful learning programmes which meet the data-informed needs of colleagues across the whole system.

We take a user-centred approach to learning product development and are looking for someone who both understands how NHS services are being digitally transformed and what skills and ways of working will help us to release more value from these services.

The Digital Academy currently offers a range of learning products about digital and data. These range from classroom-based courses to bite-sized self-directed learning online. Some of the products we design and deliver ourselves. Others are commissioned through partners. For example, NHS Providers design and deliver our NHS Digital Boards programme and Imperial University our current Digital Health Leadership PGDip. We also recommend and signpost external training offers, where they meet our product standards.

Main duties of the job

In 2024/5 the Academy's strategy is to focus on learning frameworks, pathways and products which:

  • support NHS staff across the system to use technology more confidently and competently
  • provide those responsible for digital upskilling (Educators) or rolling out new org-wide systems (CDIOs) with effective learning strategies and useful educational resources
  • support service teams and their SROs in releasing more value through digital
  • upskill those moving into a Digital Data and Technology role (DDaT) and support DDaT professional skills recruitment, retention and development across the system
  • encourage leaders to advocate for the culture, investments and processes which will support the next phase of digital transformation of the NHS

We anticipate our Exemplar Service Lead will take charge of the product sets to increase digital confidence across the NHS and provide system-wide support for digital educators. These two workstreams are the urgent priorities identified in our recent learning needs analysis. The work is high-profile, complex, strategic and has many stakeholders. It represents a big chunk of our budget and needs an experienced product person to engage the team, supplier and stakeholders and get high quality educational products live at pace.
