Job summary

The Efficiency and Productivity Insight Team in the NHS England Finance and Planning Directorate is now recruiting for Manager of Efficiency and Productivity Insight (band 8a).

This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of work to support the NHS. We:

work closely with government to agree NHS funding;

ensure the NHS lives within its annual budget;

decide how to distribute the funding to the different NHS services and parts of England;

support innovative programmes that improve the care and experience of NHS patients or people using NHS services;

set out the financial and performance priorities the NHS should be delivering each year;

report how much the NHS has spent on providing services each year;

explore how the NHS can make the best use of its money;

look at how spend on building or equipment can improve the care and experience of people using NHS services.

consider how nationally we use these resources to improve healthcare outcomes, reduce inequality, improve health and support the NHS.

As a Manager of Efficiency and Productivity Insight, you will be supporting the monthly reporting of productivity and efficiency savings across different sectors.

Main duties of the job

The team offers high profile, fast-paced projects. This requires adaptability, rigor and innovation and provides exciting development opportunities for those developing their careers in the NHS, health or the public sector.

Good analytical skills and experience within the NHS sector essential, including experience of using finance, activity and operational data. Accountancy qualification desirable but not essential.

Advanced Excel skills essential, experience of Alteryx, SQL, PowerBI desirable.

Good stakeholder management skills & experience, working with different teams across NHS England including regional colleagues as well the wider NHS e.g. ICBs and Providers.

Experience of collating and examining complex information to create high quality reports, using sound analysis and judgement to diagnose problems/risks and make effective decisions to resolve any issues.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Qualifications

Desirable
  • Accountancy qualifEducated to post-graduate degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist areaication

Knowledge

Essential
  • Knowledge of the NHS Financial regime gained ideally across both commissioning and provider sectors
  • Knowledge and experience of different NHS data (e.g. financial data, operational data, activity) / data collection / data quality improvement / data operational development principles
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritise appropriately and deliver in a timely manner

Skills

Essential
  • Strong Analytical skills (essential) with ability to produce high quality analytical reports and insights which can be used for policy development or decision making
Desirable
  • Advanced excel skills (essential). Skills in using Alteryx, Power Bi, SQL, R
