Senior User Experience Lead

Job summary

The Primary and Community Transformation and Improvement team within Primary and Community Services in NHS England shapes and leads system wide change across general practice and wider primary and community services.

The Senior User Experience is part of a multi-disciplinary team reporting to the Deputy Director, Service Transformation which has responsibility for leading research and gathering evidence about best practice, the development of effective improvement approaches and developing new models of improvement support for general practice and primary care networks.

Main duties of the job

To ensure that teams take a user-centred, evidence-based approach to service design and delivery

To develop and assure good user research practice

To support delivery of the Primary Care Access Recovery Plan and Modern General Practice and Fuller stocktake ambitions

The post holder will provide leadership across a range of priorities including:

Supporting design and codification of emerging models, solutions and pathways holistically and systematically

Synthesising user needs identified from research or piloting and designing and testing services to meet those needs

Understanding the challenges of adoption of large scale change and new models in primary care

Understand the diversity of users of services and effectively include all types of users in appropriate research activities

Understand the ways that the general practice model is changing and the role of digital technology, and the challenges and opportunities for the design and deliveryof primary care

Providing subject matter expertise in user testing and other research techniques including ethnographic research, proposition testing as well as testing digital products/journeys

Support development of what good looks like and best practice guidance and service blueprints that help reimagine how we can deliver services end-to-end

Essential Criteria

Essential
  • Subject matter expertise in healthcare across relevant key areas relating to the portfolio and demonstrable senior management experience.
  • Able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
  • Strategic thinking - able to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise. Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands. Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options.
  • Plans and organises a broad range of complex activities, formulating and adjusting plans to reflect changing circumstances. Inputs to strategic plans across NHS and within the specific teams.
  • In depth experience (minimum five years +) expertise and knowledge of designing, executing and leading analysis of user research to understand under needs from digital tools and digital healthcare and pathways at national scale. Knowledge of inclusive design principles. Practitioner knowledge of current accessibility legislation, standards and techniques.
