We now have an exciting opportunity for an aspirational and committed leader to join our Adult Integrated Commissioning Division with extensive experience in planning, developing or commissioning Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) services. The Virtual Ward Delivery Manager is responsible for the ambitious delivery and further development of the Virtual Ward scheme within Lewisham. The service was established in February 2023 and has rapidly gained traction within the Borough. The programme now requires ongoing relationship management, regular evaluation and improvement and a view to further embed and grow the service into one which meets the needs of the Lewisham Urgent and Emergency health and care system in the Borough.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to work confidently and collaboratively, working with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, Lewisham Local Authority, Primary Care including the GP federation, patients, the SEL ICS within and beyond Lewisham ICB, and other key stakeholders and teams to drive forward delivery.

The post will also lead on other service areas as directed, working collaboratively with partners. The successful candidate will continue to ensure the application of a clear strategic focus on the reduction of inequalities relating to access, experience and outcomes for our local population. The successful candidate will have proven leadership, programme and change management skills with a strong background in commissioning, service development or improvement.

  1. Leads on monitoring, and delivering success across the Virtual Ward programme and this highly complex programme will be essential in ensuring that the Associate Director of Planned Care & Cancer and the Director of Delivery can deliver their objectives and will encompass a range of topics that requires subject matter expertise including governance, assurance, performance, productivity and efficiency, transformation, and effectiveness.
  2. Provide day to day leadership of the team and be a source of subject matter expertise leading on the development of the Virtual Ward implementation, programme management and effective governance and assurance plans.
  3. Day to day support and collaboration with the Associate Director of Planned Care & Cancer shaping the vision and development of the delivery approach and associated methodologies.
  4. Responsible for ensuring a consistent approach to assurance processes, providing specialist advice and guidance to the Associate Director of Planned Care & Cancer and the Director of Delivery.
  5. Translate national policy and guidance in line with local requirements and make appropriate recommendations regarding its application.
  6. Ensuring effective and collaborative systems for continuous improvement are in place and opportunities for shared learning across the ICB system, and several partners/agencies.
  7. Be visible and lead the strategic development of the service.
  8. To act as a single point of contact for high level business needs of the Associate Director of Planned Care & Cancer.
  9. Be responsible for achieving high standards of governance; high operational performance; sound financial management; and improving productivity.
  10. Be responsible for developing a climate which fosters clear lines of responsibility and accountability and effective multidisciplinary working.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of experience working at a senior level in a specialist area
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and Professional development
  • Project Management qualification or equivalent experience

Experience & Knowledge

Essential
  • Demonstrated experience of co- ordinating projects in highly complex and challenging environment
  • Experience at a senior level of specialist role within a complex customer focused operation
  • Experience of working within a complex and challenging environment, managing demanding relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment
  • Knowledge/understanding of national and local policies and strategic issues relevant to commissioning and transformation
  • Knowledge of organisational structures and key relationships in the NHS and social care
  • Experience of drafting briefing papers and correspondence for a senior audience;
  • Experience of managing budgets and business planning processes;
  • Experience of successfully setting up and managing internal processes and procedures.
