Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities include:

• Design, build and test software and data solutions that are complex or large scale which may require integration between systems, using agreed standards
• Select and implement the appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable and future-proofed solutions
• Design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered with mitigation of security threats as a core feature
• Configure systems to enable to use of new solutions, or to improve the performance, security, reliability or compliance of existing solutions
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, enabling discussions within a multidisciplinary team
• Gather customer requirements and translate those into a documented plan, against which a solution can be developed
• Engage with end users and bring their needs and perspectives the design and development of solutions

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level, or equivalent specialist experience, backed up by additional and continual professional development.

Understanding

• Understanding of cyber security, information governance, data standards and other compliance requirements affecting software design and deployment.
• Understanding of NHS organisations, priorities and information flows.

Experience

• Experience in communicating complex and technical concepts and issues to non technical colleagues, customers and stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent IT knowledge and experience using cloud-based collaboration systems like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.
• Experience of researching best practice and understanding policies, then implementing those in the design and development of solutions.

• Experience of acquiring, understanding and implementing user feedback in software design, build and testing.
• Experience of providing line management to a team, providing direction, motivation and guidance, including reviewing performance of individuals.
• Experience of to provide briefings to senior management.
• Experience of working in the NHS.

Skills and Competencies

• Competent in writing and deploying code in a production environment, using an applicable operating system, database or software development language.
• Competent in testing and debugging software, both for newly developed and existing applications.
• Able to learn and utilise new languages, systems, frameworks and APIs.
• Able to express technical ideas to a non technical audience.
• Able to work without supervision, prioritise competing demands and work to challenging timescales.
• Able to develop and maintain effective and credible relationships with other staff, departments and partner organisations

• A comprehensive knowledge of web-based design and development

• A comprehensive knowledge of SQL coding, query optimisation and data architecture.
• A comprehensive knowledge of clinical application operations and data structures.
• A comprehensive knowledge of low level data processing, business logic, operating system and/or algorithmic coding.
