Associate Non-Executive Director

Job summary

The Trust is seeking develop its digital expertise on the Board through the introduction of an Associate Non-Executive Director (NED) position at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS). This is an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of people served by the Trust.

The Associate NED role is used successfully in the NHS to support Board succession strategy and achieving a balance of Board level skills.

Although formally a non-voting NED, the Associate will play a full part in the leadership of the Trust, participating in Trust Board meetings and Board Sub-committee meetings. The role will be remunerated in the same way as a voting NED.

NWAS is seeking candidates who have the leadership style and breadth of perspective to make good collective decisions.

Given the significant public profile and responsibility members of NHS Boards hold, it is vital that those appointed inspire confidence of the public, patients and NHS staff at all times. The Trust will conduct a range of pre-employment checks with candidates including those that fall under the Fit and Proper Persons Test (FPPT Framework.

In line with the FPPT Framework, the NHSE Leadership Competency Framework (LCF) is used to support the assessment of all members of the Board and forms a core part of board member appraisals and the ongoing development of individuals and the Board as a whole.

Main duties of the job

On average this role will require the equivalent to 2 to 3 days a month. However, the time commitment may vary and a flexible approach should be taken. Committee meetings are held virtually by MS Teams, but monthly board meetings are in person at the Trust Headquarters in Bolton.
