Head of Activity Analysis & Forecasting

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and exceptional individual to lead our Activity Analysis and Forecasting at Nottingham University Hospitals. Working for one of the largest NHS acute Trusts in the country you will be involved in a wide range of activity information-based analysis including demand and capacity modelling and forecasting. You will also lead a specialised analyst/data scientist team.

Main duties of the job

Information and Insight is comprised of multiple teams of information and analytical staff who deliver a wide range of supportive services including data classifications/coding, statutory reporting, complex analysis to support decision making, business intelligence, data quality assurance and data visualisation.

The post-holder will take a lead responsibility in providing a proactive and responsive service to support the organisation's use of activity analysis & forecasting to support decision-making.

The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of a diverse range of analytical work to a high level of accuracy, ensuring it is well presented and relevant to current policy and strategy within the NHS.

The post holder will lead on demand and capacity modelling for bed modelling to support Trust planning and contribute to a wider range of modelling as required.

The post holder will contribute to exploration and future planning on use of analytical tools and capability on behalf of Information & Insight.

The post holder will link with internal and external stakeholders and build excellent working relationships at all levels to ensure activity analysis & forecasting from their team is delivered in line with external requirements and aligned to the needs of the Trust.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly, across both campuses and remotely.

Training & Qualifications

Essential
  • oDemonstration of ongoing professional development. oMaster's Level qualification, or equivalent experience
Desirable
  • oFormal leadership and management training/development. o PhD, level in analytics / statistics / operational research / informatics

Experience

Essential
  • oProven experience working within an Information and/or analysis role
  • oExperience of line managing and development of staff
  • oIn depth specialist knowledge of Demand and Capacity forecasting to support acute Secondary Provider planning
  • oExperience in developing products using Business Intelligence software e.g. Qliksense/ Tableau/Power BI, SSRS
  • oDetailed knowledge & understanding of Health Informatics - including healthcare datasets (particularly secondary care), data quality, national strategic control mechanisms for data management, definitional guidance & data protection
Desirable
  • oDetailed knowledge of relevant NHS information processes (eg Commissioning & Payment by Result mechanisms, Secondary Uses Service)
  • oExperience of working with 'big data' technologies, such as Hadoop, NoSQL, Orange or Python
