The challenge

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for regulating nuclear site health and safety, nuclear safety, security, safeguards and the transport of radioactive materials. It’s a fast-moving world and you’ll be joining at an exciting and critical time. As our IT Service Transition Manager, you’ll make technological transformation happen across ONR.

The IT Manager role

From AI chatbots to automation, ONR is changing – and you’ll be at the heart of the action. We’re introducing new and updated services and off-boarding legacy tech to deliver our 2025 strategy. As IT Service Transition Manager, you’ll make sure all services move smoothly in (or out) of use, whether it’s Cloud-related tech or Microsoft 365. In other words, you’ll accept products, determine whether they are fit for purpose and assess readiness against agreed service acceptance criteria.

To meet strict deadlines, you’ll need to work closely with functions across ONR. Through collaboration, you’ll see that changes are delivered within the ITIL lifecycle approach without impacting the organisation day to day. We want stakeholders to have a great experience, so your people skills need to be sound. Customer-focussed, you’ll make recommendations on go-live, early life support and service acceptance, whilst ensuring that the acceptance criteria are understood by the wider IT Operations team.

The person

With transformation happening rapidly, this is no role for a beginner. You’ll need Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation V3, and proven experience of ITIL service delivery framework, with a focus on IT operations. With this background, you’ll know about service transition and change processes; the project delivery lifecycle; and Managed Service Operating Models. We’re also looking for experience of planning and transitioning IT services into Business as Usual operations.

However, to join us, you’ll also need interpersonal skills that match your technical talents. A clear communicator, you’ll explain complex matters simply and build good relationships.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £43,524 - £52,565 plus an additional £4,052 London Weighting Allowance if applicable. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits), and generous holiday entitlement.
