Network Support Engineer – Scotland – 6 months contract - £400 a day

Overview

An exciting role has arisen with a leading Power Generating business in Scotland for a Network Support Engineer. The role will be focused on assisting with the IT Network team taking over management of the OT Network infrastructure within the Hydro Power Stations in the area. The focus is assessment of the existing infrastructure, documenting the findings and identifying / resolving any immediate issues identified as part of the novation of management from incumbent team to IT Network team.  This will require being on site most days and travel to several Hydro Power Stations in Scotland on a regular basis during the project.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the Network Operations team predominantly focused on support of an OT network transition project for the Hydro Power Stations in Scotland.
  • Carrying out onsite audits, documenting the whole of the OT network infrastructure and any connected devices at each site.
  • Carrying out network upgrades to ensure N-1 to latest patch release as per the companies patch management policies on OT LAN switches and Firewalls.
  • Creating and updating network diagrams and other supporting documentation based on initial audit findings to ensure all OT network elements are clearly documented.
  • Assist and input to any new designs or upgrade plans for the OT network infrastructure.
  • Carry out configuration and hardware changes to align with the company standards and any new site designs.
  • Provide Technical support for the OT network during normal business hours.
  • Assist with implementation of network monitoring and other network tools within the OT network.
  • Carry out knowledge share sessions and assist the wider IT network team ensuring they are fully familiarised with the OT network.
  • Liaise with incumbent support teams and assist with creating a Support Matrix / RACI for go forward support model.
  • Works closely with the Generation teams supporting the Plant network that interfaces with the OT network and Cyber team to all changes are clearly communicated to the various stakeholder groups to minimise downtime.

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • In-depth knowledge LAN Network technologies (predominantly Cisco) and L2/L3 protocols
  • Firewalls and security experience (Checkpoint),
  • Previous experience in conducting network audits and can create detailed network diagrams and documentation
  • Experience with monitoring, event management and other operational tools (such as ManageEngine, PRTG, Observium etc.)
  • Previous experience supporting either an IT or OT network at 3rd line level
  • Preferably CCNP certified or able to demonstrative technical hands-on knowledge at that level
  • Hands on experience configuring & supporting Cisco switches (IOS, IOS-XE, Nexus) and routers
  • Hands on experience configuring & supporting Checkpoint Firewalls
  • Experience in support large scale networks and internal user base beneficial
  • Able to work unsupervised and prioritise own workstreams and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Willingness to work in an Industrial environment which will include wearing PPE and travel on regular basis to other sites in the region
  • Must have own vehicle and full clean UK licence

Desirable

  • Any experience with Palo Alto firewalls would also be desirable
  • Any experience with SDWAN (especially Velocloud) would be advantageous as would any experience with Network Automation (Ansible, Restconf, Netconf, Python etc.)

Package:

  • £400 a day inside IR35
  • 6 month contract
  • Own transport is required due to site visit
