Web Application Support Engineer - Remote

Our client, a leading organisation in the global insurance space has an exciting opportunity to join their team on a permanent basis, working closely alongside fellow engineers in the UK and overseas. Web App Support Engineer, you will be responsible for global administration and support of distributed computing systems including Cloud and on Premises. You will work closely with our global teams to support Web Hosting infrastructures (both physical and virtual).

Role responsibilities:

  • Primary role is to ensure the global stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the systems and infrastructure that support core organizational functions. To monitor systems and ensure availability that corresponds to published SLAs
  • Solid working knowledge of job role demonstrating application of technical skills and interpersonal competencies
  • Provides direct global technical leadership and support for all requirements in planning, coordination, scripting, and implementation of releases, upgrades, or changes to our distributed computing environment. This includes managing several small and medium scale projects and/or tasks of various complexities across the enterprise.
  • Some after-hours work will be required
  • Position will require participation in an after-hours, on-call rotation to assist with incident handling and troubleshooting Web Hosting infrastructure issues
  • This position has the potential to have a sliding shift start/stop times to ensure we have global coverage 24/7.

Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud and related technologies
  • Experience with F5 LTM or Avi load balancers
  • Some knowledge of Siteminder and security products helpful
  • Some knowledge of Linux and Apache
  • Experience using ServiceNow ITIL managed processes
  • Installing and supporting Microsoft IIS Webservers.
  • Installing and supporting WebSphere Application Server
  • Troubleshooting Web Environments. This includes a good understanding and hands on use of tools such as Fiddler, Wireshark, Dynatrace etc.
  • Managing IaaS and PaaS in Microsoft Azure
  • Solid working knowledge of load balances such as Avi, F5 LTM, Netscaler. Must understand the concepts of load balancing regardless of platform.
  • Experience with PowerShell and / or Python
  • In-depth knowledge of server technologies employed hardware, O/S, and related tools and applications.
  • Advanced technical diagnostic and research skills.
  • Ability to identify and escalate issues to management when appropriate to meet SLA Requirements.
  • Good foundational knowledge of networking components and services such as TCP/IP protocols, DHCP and DNS technologies.
  • Requires ability to correctly access risks of various alternatives and take appropriate actions to restore services in the event of system outages.
  • Ability to explain the technical implications of various alternative solutions to management
