We operate in a dynamic industry where regulatory and competition issues are at the forefront of our strategic, legal, and reputational considerations. As part of our Marketing, Consumer and Regulatory Affairs team within the Legal, Government and Regulatory Affairs (LGRA) function, the Senior Legal Counsel will play a crucial role in managing our brand, protecting our reputation, and advocating for our interests. We engage with Ofcom, the Competition and Markets Authority, Government, and the wider industry to ensure our voice is heard.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you'll take end-to-end responsibility for competition matters affecting the mobile and broadband industry.

Senior Legal Counsel key responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on Competition Law: Provide high-quality, pragmatic legal advice on the application of competition law and regulation, ensuring senior stakeholders understand complex legal concepts.
  • Supporting Investigations: Assist with competition law and merger control investigations before competition authorities.
  • Regulatory Representation: Represent our policy position to Government, regulatory bodies, and industry forums to achieve our commercial objectives.
  • Training and Development: Prepare and deliver training on competition law matters to the business and wider legal team.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues in various departments including Commercial, Economic Regulatory, Corporate Communications, Technology, Risk & Compliance, and others within the group.

The successful Senior Legal Counsel will have:

  • 8+ Years' PQE: Qualified at a well-respected law firm in the UK or another Commonwealth jurisdiction, with extensive experience in competition law.
  • Expertise: Demonstrable experience in advising on commercial propositions, strategic projects, investigations, reviews, disputes, and appeals.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience in drafting regulatory submissions and preparing clear, concise arguments and presentations.

Nice to Have

  • In-House Experience: Prior experience in a telecoms or communications company or regulator.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with the UK and EU regulatory framework for telecoms.
  • Technical Understanding: Knowledge of mobile, Internet, and telecoms products and technology.
  • Competition Economics: Experience or knowledge of competition economics or competition policy work.
  • Program Implementation: Experience supporting large-scale program implementation.
