Design Engineer

We provide Cloud, SD-WAN Networks, Unified Communications and Cyber Security services delivered over our own high capacity, secure, super-fast business-only network.

 

Location: Hybrid - Chippenham, Wiltshire and Client Sites (Travel to sites required a few times a month) with flexibility 1-2 Days WFH

Role Purpose:

We’re looking for an Design Engineer that will be responsible for completion of design and other technical aspects of engineering projects by organizing, controlling, designing and configuration of project elements for communications and telecoms equipment and services.  The successful candidate will have experience in a diverse range of communication technologies including IP Networking and at least one of the following: SDN IP Networking TDM DWDM Microwave radio Telephony CCTV or Access Control.

 

What you will be doing:

You will be responsible for developing project solutions and designs by reviewing project specifications, proposals and plans and conferring with internal and external stakeholders and in conjunction with the Project Management Team, complete monitoring of project progress & coordinating activities.

 

What experience you'll have:

• Experience in a diverse range of communication technologies, including IP Networking and at least one of the following: SDN, IP Networking, TDM, DWDM, Microwave radio, Telephony, CCTV or Access Control
• Designing and specifying systems and sub-systems in line with customer specification. This may be completed as part of a pre-sales activity or project delivery phase
• Creating Bill of Materials and assisting in pricing in conjunction with sales/bid team when required
• Support in the installation, commissioning and testing of communications equipment and systems, ensuring accurate and timely completion of projects
• Formulation of project and handover documentation including, but not limited to; engineering documentation and drawings, testing procedures, Health and Safety documentation
• Good communication skills
• Configuration, fault-finding and maintenance of third party proprietary equipment
• Obtaining and maintaining technical competence in the communication systems supported


You'll have an understanding of:

• Flexibility in working, including willingness to work and stay away in different regions of the UK and occasionally abroad
• Excellent customer facing qualities.
• Excellent communicator with strong presentation, numeracy and written skills
• Confidence to work in controlled areas, such as electrical substations.
• Confidence to work with low voltage power systems
• An aptitude for pragmatic problem solving.
• Willingness to learn and keenness to grow.
• Strong problem-solving abilities; able to facilitate discussions and outcomes
• Able to travel within designated territory and able to work with the minimum of supervision

 

The following would be advantageous:

• Cisco Qualification (CCNA/CCNP etc)
• Experience with Cyber Security.
• Electrical ‘18th Edition’ and/or Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations
• Inspection & Testing level 2 certificate (C&G 2392-10)
• Understanding of sales process
