Role
Role & responsibilities:
- Performing mechanical testing (tensile, Charpy impact, hardness, Pellini, etc.) and metallographic specimen preparation in accordance with the Test House Manager’s and Test Technician Supervisor’s instructions
- Data recording and input
- Performing conscientiously all tasks allocated by the Test House Manager or the Test Technician Supervisor
- Maintaining a clean and tidy work area to support high health & safety and environmental standards
Training
You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician Standard on a Technical Support Technician pathway
On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis
After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study
After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
- Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world.
- These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
