Data Architect
Role: Azure Data Architect & Modeler
Contract Duration: 10-12 weeks
Location: Remote (UK-based) with occasional travel

Overview
A leading organisation is currently transforming its data strategy to enhance business outcomes through data-driven decision-making. They seek an experienced professional with expertise in Azure data engineering and advanced data modelling. This role will support the implementation of the company's next-generation data architecture, ensuring that data models meet enterprise information management, business intelligence, and machine learning objectives.
Core Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Engineering:
- Design and deploy data pipelines and storage solutions on Azure
- Develop robust data integration processes across various systems
- Optimise batch and streaming data transformation processes
- Ensure data security and compliance with retention policies
- Build and test Synapse data pipelines for performance
- Implement Medallion architecture and modern data warehousing patterns
Data Modelling & Design:
- Create and maintain enterprise-level data models
- Design dimensional models (star and snowflake schemas) for data warehousing
- Develop models for data warehouses, operational data stores, and data marts
- Optimise data models for efficiency and data retrieval
- Ensure alignment of models with governance requirements
- Conduct reverse engineering to analyse data structures in applications
- Leadership & Collaboration
Technical Expertise:
- 7+ years in data engineering and modelling
- Proficiency in Azure technologies (e.g., Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage Gen 2, SQL Pools, PySpark, Spark pools)
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing methodologies (Kimball)
- Proficient in SQL/T-SQL and Python
- Hands-on experience with Azure data warehousing solutions and testing
Architecture & Design:
- Deep understanding of modern data architecture
- Experience with Medallion architecture and data lake storage formats (Parquet, JSON, CSV)
- Familiarity with metadata management and related tools
- Knowledge of Azure DevOps and CI/CD processes
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Knowledge of Power BI or other visualisation tools
- Experience in Scrum-based agile processes
- Understanding of semantic data layers
