Business Analyst
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Specialised Cancer and Specialised Medicine and Rehabilitation Care Group as a Business Analyst on a permanent basis.
Line management for this post will be through Data Analytics Team which currently sits across 2 clinical Care Groups, Specialised Medicine & Rehabilitation and Specialised Cancer Services. However, the postholder will also work closely with Operational and Service managers across all directorates within the Care Group to support the delivery of clinical services.
Main duties of the job
The Business Analyst will be responsible for the provision of accurate, concise andclear information to support the Trust in its business and clinical processes. Analyseand manipulate complex data sets and wider information issues to produce highquality management information for senior managers and clinical staff in the SCS &SMR Care Groups.
Provision of expertise and analysis to develop, interpret and advise on specialist information issues.
Maintain, develop and enhance work systems to support reporting processes particularly with reference to contracting and performance monitoring.
Ensure that all relevant data submissions are returned on time and that the data reported is accurate.
To maintain and develop good relationships with all external agencies at all levels. Furthermore, to support the management and development of other members within the team.

Specialised Cancer services are delivered at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield, as well as at District General Hospitals within the wider region of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
The Specialised Medicine directorate covers Haematology, Dermatology, Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Immunology/Allergy. These services are delivered across both the Hallamshire Hospital and Northern General hospital for patients within Sheffield and across the wider region.
The Specialised Rehabilitation Services (SRS) directorate provides a regional service to patients requiring specialised spinal cord injury rehabilitation, specialist wheelchair and seating services, prosthetic limb and orthotic services and gait laboratory services within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and across the region.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Educated to degree level including honours degree with statistical or business related modules, diploma or equivalent professional training
- Intermediate SQL in addition analytics and/or IT qualification or equivalent.
- Post Graduate Qualification or equivalent experience
- A/AS level Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting or Business Studies or related subject (or equivalent qualification)
Experience
- Excellent SQL skills- data management, interrogation & analysis products
- Advanced knowledge and highly skilled in the use of Excel
- In depth knowledge and understanding of NHS Data Dictionary including datasets, data standards and data modelling concepts
- Experience of working in an NHS setting with a strong understanding of patient pathways
- An analytical mindset and ability to explain trends and themes in data.
- Ability to challenge and manage user expectations
- Understanding of data protection legislation and its impact on the role day to day
- Expert technical knowledge of information systems including in depth knowledge of NHS data definitions.
Skills and Knowledge
- Expert level of skill in information analysis and synthesis, including the ability to receive highly complex and sensitive information on patient details and diagnoses and the ability to interpret, draw conclusions from it and synthesise new knowledge from the findings.
- Expert skills in complex data extraction from the Trust's information databases including the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) and manipulation of this data in spread sheets and PC applications such as Excel and Access, using skills at an advanced level of expertise
- Ability to produce concise and clear reports summarizing financial or activity positions from datasets with an ability to collate and compare information from a variety of sources
- Ability to interpret national policy and guidance documents to provide expertise on information issues
- Ability to work independently, using own initiative
- Ability to prioritise effectively and to successfully work to sometimes tight deadlines
- Ability and willingness to learn new skills and develop self
