Job summary

The Role is to work as part of the Testing and Customer Support Team via the execution of scripts, script writing, supporting testing plans and other activities relevant to ensuring the delivery of high-quality maintenance releases as well as proving support to customers in relation to Somerset Cancer Register (SCR) products and services.The ideal candidate should be a quick learner who enjoys problem-solving and thrives on thinking outside the box. They will need to be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of colleagues in a remote work environment. They should be detail-oriented, able to adapt to new tools and technologies quickly, and have a strong analytical mindset. Experience in software testing would be beneficial but is not essential.The role can be either primarily home or office based. However, there will be occasions where in person attendance is required for training or meetings.

Main duties of the job

The SCR Test Analyst will be responsible for designing and executing tests and supporting test plans in order to ensure high-quality releases.

The role involves close collaboration with SCR team members, customers, and national bodies, translating technical information into accessible language, and participating in SCR meetings to share best practices. You will be required to prioritise and manage your own workload, report on testing results, identify risks and maintain up-to-date knowledge of SCR products and national cancer guidelines.

There will also be an element of customer support where you will need to provide quick and effective resolutions to a variety of system related issues or escalating them when necessary alongside maintaining strong relationships with users.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to level 3 or higher(AS, NVQ level 3, advanced apprenticeship ect) in IT related subject or equivalent gained through specific relevant experience. If not obvious, please justify in personal statement.
  • English Language and Maths GCSE or equivalent graded C+ or 4+. If not obvious, please justify in personal statement.
  • Evidence of own continuing professional or personal development.
Desirable
  • ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Testing.
  • ITIL Foundation.

Experience

Essential
  • Good working knowledge of Windows operating systems and software applications including MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Some experience in testing/quality assurance (this does not need to be restricted to software). User acceptance, beta testing code reviews or any other testing would be acceptable.
  • Using Teams or similar for meetings / collaboration.
  • Working in a customer service environment.
Desirable
  • Understanding of Data Protection (GDPR) / data security principles.
  • Understanding of the Software development lifecycle.
  • Awareness of national guidance on cancer including care pathways / waiting times
  • Client / server computing, networking, security, relational databases.
  • Microsoft technologies / products such as Windows Server, Azure, Active Directory, IIS, SQL Server.
  • Work experience within the in the NHS.
  • Use of Dev Ops or similar software lifecycle management application.
