Job summary
South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) is an integrated acute and community Trust, and is looking for an outstanding individual to manage the Data Warehouse Development Team.
The post holder will provide expert strategic and operational technical management and development of information and data processing systems. They will manage further development of the Trust's data warehouse and business information systems. The role will also include technical development work including support and maintain existing application databases.
The post holder will be responsible for managing the Data Warehouse Development Team. This team is a key part of the Information Department which provides a wide range of operational and performance reports to the Trust through its Business Intelligence systems. The department promotes agile working.
Requirements include:
o Relevant degree, or suitable equivalent qualifications and experience.
o Advanced experience of MS SQL server in a complex organisation
o Excellent technical skills and knowledge backed up by previous experience of data warehousing.
o Experience of Managing a SQL Development Team
o Ability to interpret complex user requirements and translate these into deliverables.
o Strong communication skills

Main duties of the job
Responsible for management of the Department's information and data processing systems.
Recommend and implement strategic improvements to streamline and enhance existing processes and systems, promoting greater efficiency and effectiveness within the Information Department. Determine and implement improvements to departmental data processing and information production systems.
Supporting and maintaining application databases, developing and supporting the department's Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence systems.
Act as a lead specialist providing advice on system or information developments to project managers/IM&T staff, external third party developers or Trust users.
Create policies and procedures for Software Development within the Information Team
Acts as coach or mentor of junior members in the team, supports their training and development. Coaches individuals in the use of information and systems.

Information and Performance
Lead and manage the data and information flow from operational /departmental systems into the Information Department databases and datawarehouse. Key systems that feed the data warehouse are the PatientAdministration system (PAS and A&E), Maternity and Radiology systems.
Lead and manage the Trusts Business Intelligence (BI) data warehouse(Insource Health Data Enterprise) and reporting tools (PowerBI and SSRS),that provide flexible on-line reporting covering a wide range of datasources.
Lead discussions and specification of new information processing andreporting requirements. To use knowledge and expertise to recommendand implement agreed solutions. Ensure that the process is robust, efficientand well documented.
To improve and streamline existing processes and systems to promotegreater efficiency and effectiveness within the information department.
To lead and manage the database administration.
Ensure that the data warehouses and processes fully supportContracting/SLA reporting requirements including Payment by Results(PbR) and SUS data submissions. This includes feeds to third partysystems including the Civica SLAM commissioning system.
To ensure data is available for key performance indicators dashboardwithin the Trust BI solution.
To ensure Finance staff have access to data required to feed the SLR /PLICS system.
Ensure that the data warehouses are structured to support efficient dataaggregation and analysis by information staff.
To lead and manage upgrades to data warehouses and reporting tools toensure the department keeps up with the latest technologies and SQLserver upgrades.
Ensure appropriate development software and hardware is procured /upgraded to support maintaining existing set up and new projects withinbudget restraints.
To maintain a good understanding of available newtechnologies/techniques and be able to apply as appropriate.
To respond to queries regarding data integrity within the departmentsdatabases. Investigating, raising and resolving issues with the Informationanalysts.
Assisting Information staff with database analysis and data interpretation,including problem solving using SQL programming, use of advancedfunctions and complex methodology.
Develop and improve information reporting systems to meet therequirements of managers within the Trust.
To support the Trust in the development and implementation of newinformation systems.
Investigate technical issues in areas of expertise related to software ordatabases, and identify solutions and options for resolution.
Assess and manage the risks in relation to the roles and responsibilities ofthe Development Team.
Ensure that all developed systems are documented to the appropriate level,and that documentation is maintained and up to date
Create, develop and sustain good working relationships with externalstakeholders.
To ensure that the Data Protection Act recommendations relating to theprovision of information are followed at all times.
Assist other teams within Information Department as required.
Staff Management
The post holder is responsible for the line management of a number of DataWarehouse Development staff to line manage staff according to thepolicies and procedure of the Trust. These duties include holding regular1:1 meetings, ensuring personal development plans are in place, settingobjectives and appraising performance and monitoring sickness andattendance.
Staff Development
To provide day to day management and motivation for the DevelopmentTeam.
Support the Senior Information System Developers to ensure they receivethe appropriate training and development to carry out their role effectively
Acts as a coach and mentor for other less knowledgeable and experiencedcolleagues, raising the standard of professional excellence throughexample.
To cascade knowledge and skills and train colleagues with any newtechniques and technologies as necessary. Procure external training asrequired within department or project budgets.
To ensure Information Analysts are using the most appropriate tools tocarry out data analysis
General Duties
Maintaining a good understanding of available new technologies /techniques.
Participate in appraisal and personal review and work to agreed setobjectives

Ensure all processes have written currently procedures and that they arefollowed and maintained at all times.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Educated to postgraduate level or equivalent i.e. Degree level qualification plus at extensive development experience gained in a large commercial organisation.
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification in an ICT related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Microsoft certification in SQL Server, Visual basic
Experience
- Extensive relevant experience with IM&T in a highly complex environment
- Experience of managing a SQL development team
- Advanced experience of MS SQL server in a complex organisation, including database administration tools and techniques (programming and administration)
- Data conversion and transformaReport development using windows technologies, e.g. OLAPtion
- Report development using windows technologies, e.g. OLAP

Skills
- Thorough understanding of relational databases
