Senior Network Engineer/Senior Server Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Network Infrastructure Team. This senior technical role within the Network team focuses on the provision, performance, management, and availability of the Network infrastructure, including telephony where applicable. The role supports the ICB and its customers, including Primary Care and other managed estates, ensuring network infrastructure is proactively managed, maintained, and available to users in accordance with defined KPIs and SLAs. The postholder will participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota for the ICB network infrastructure and the customers it serves.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management & Support:

  • Expertise & Support:
    • Provide senior-level expertise and support for the security, performance, and stability of Data Center, Cloud, and Server Infrastructure.
    • Ensure the availability, configuration, documentation, and control of servers and associated infrastructure and software.
    • Deliver a responsive, customer-focused, professional infrastructure service.
  • Service Incident Resolution:
    • Responsible for the effective resolution of all service incidents and escalations.
    • Support server and infrastructure services for all managed sites in accordance with SLAs.
    • Diagnose complex ICT problems in dynamically changing ICT situations.
  • Configuration & Maintenance:
    • Manage and implement configuration, upgrades, and patching of the infrastructure.
    • Troubleshoot server and infrastructure hardware and software to ensure service stability and efficient resolution of configuration issues.
  • Monitoring & Documentation:
    • Monitor infrastructure systems and services.
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of all infrastructure documentation, ensuring it is up to date and reviewed regularly for accuracy.

Providing senior-level expertise and support for the security, performance, andstability of the overall IT Network Infrastructure Responsible for the availability, configuration, documentation and control of thenetwork and associated infrastructure and software. Deputise for the Lead Network Services Manager Responsible for the effective resolution of all service incidents and escalations. Deliver a responsive, customer-focused, professional IT Network. Support network and services for all managed sites in accordance with SLAs. Manage and implement configuration, upgrades, and patching of the networkinfrastructure. Diagnose complex ICT network problems in dynamically changing ICT situations. Ensure that all Network Infrastructure policies, security, and governance frameworksare consistently applied. Responsible for the monitoring of the network infrastructure systems and services. Troubleshoot network hardware and software to ensure the stability of theservice/network and ensure that configuration issues are dealt with efficiently andprofessionally. Manage processes to ensure that all relevant IT systems and operational areas areoperated with due regard to proper and agreed security, safety, and environmentalprocedures. Responsible for the analysis of major incidents within their technical area, identifyingreoccurring trends and making appropriate recommendations based on theseoutcomes. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of all infrastructure documentation,ensuring it is up to date and reviewed at regular intervals for accuracy

Provide a single point of contact and SME accountability. Liaise with 3rd party providers to provide additional support when and where requiredto meet contractual service levels. Reduce operational demand by recommending/implementing infrastructure changes. Identify new ways of working to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of theservice and implement the changes needed. Identify, manage, and reduce infrastructure and operational-related risks. To provide expert advice on the organisations infrastructure. Assist relevant peers in the planning and execution of system testing necessary fornew and upgraded infrastructure installations prior to release in the live environmentto ensure continuity of service. Provide timely and service availability reports to internal senior management. Monitor systems, LAN and WAN performance, capacity, and connectivity to ensureproblems and faults are dealt with promptly, and regularly report these findings, Ensure change management policies and procedures are always followed by internaland external staff and support companies. Responsible for the on-going assessment of the network infrastructure to ensure it isfit for purpose, resilient and reflects the ICBs and its customer's Business Continuityrequirements. Advise on, and perform, the implementation and maintenance of Disaster Recoveryprocedures for all systems and perform regular testing.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
  • Cisco Routing and Switching Certification (CCNP+)
  • Cisco Security Certification (CCNP+)
  • Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master's level equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Member of relevant professional body

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
  • Must be able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups
  • Significant experience in operational support and expertise in a Cisco Enterprise environment and management of its infrastructure
  • Complex Configuration, administration, planning, design, implementation, and management of Network Infrastructure & Security IE: Routers, Firewalls (inc IPS, IDS), Switches, Wi-Fi, ISE, WAN Accelerations, Remote Access solutions, Licensing.
  • Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment
  • Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
  • Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes
  • Demonstrated experience in a Healthcare environment
  • Experience of setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures.
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance of the individuals.
  • An in depth understanding of a range of security authentication and encryption methods

Skills and Abilities

Essential
  • Ability to analyse complex issues where material is conflicting and drawn from multiple sources;
