IT Lead - GP Practice

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Lead to come and join the friendly St Thomas Medical Group team. The successful candidate will work alongside our other IT Lead. Due to expansion the group needs to bolster IT support across the three sites in Exeter.

The Group have three sites across Exeter. St Thomas Health Centre, Exwick Health Centre and the Student Health Centre.

The Practice uses SystmOne as their clinical system.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent skill mix, previous experience working in a large organisation, friendly, have a good sense of humour and be flexible. The successful candidates will be expected to work across sites supporting the teams as and when required.

We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic about delivering excellent patient care, good at communicating with a wide range of staff, teams and other organisations to collect information and find solutions. Someone who takes a proactive approach to identify bottlenecks and other inefficiencies.

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the IT Lead. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Effective maintenance of all practice IT infrastructure, including hardware, office systems, email, telephone, internet and clinical systems, minimising downtime

The provision of a local support service to all staff, resolving issues with IT systems and equipment

To ensure back-up and disaster recovery procedures are in place and effective

To perform regular system checks to maximise performance

Provide training to all staff as required, ensuring the effective use of all systems

To ensure staff adhere to practice policies regarding IT security and ensuring conformance to Information Governance

To deliver the IT related elements of the staff induction programme

Support the team in the effective use of searches, audits and recalls

Support the team in the use of the clinical system

Act as a liaison between the practice and external agencies, for the timely management of all faults

To ensure all staff have the appropriate smart card access to the clinical system

Provide training to all staff as required, ensuring the effective use of all systems

r.Configure searches and interpret data for audit purposes

s.To assist/oversea the sending out mail merges for a number of campaigns i.e. flu

t.Ensure you are up to date with the release of Patches and upgrades

u.The configuration (activation and de-activation) of all staff email accounts and other software once employment has ended

v.Ensure all IT related policies and protocols and user guides are created and updated

w.Contribute to the development of the strategic objectives of the practice, providing specialist IT knowledge

x.Investigating and solving issues in a wide range of unique software

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above)
  • Experience of working with the following:
  • MS Office, Desktop operating systems, Windows N365, EMIS, SystmOne GPIT, Anti-virus products, network infrastructure appliances, firewalls, third party clinical software INR Star, Seca, Accurx, Docman
  • Experience of establishing effective office administrative systems
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • In-depth knowledge of Office and Outlook
  • EMIS / SystmOne / Vision user skills
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
