We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Senior Information Analyst to join our friendly and supportive Business Intelligence team. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of a performance focused culture where safety, effectiveness and patient experience are consistently delivered through the provision of high-quality performance information, analytical interpretation, benchmarking, forecasting and intelligent modelling.

Reporting to the Head of Operational Intelligence, the post-holder will assume specific areas of work and will provide high-quality timely, accurate and relevant information that enables effective performance monitoring and intelligence-led decision making. The ability to work as a flexible team member is essential.

You will have excellent communication skills, and will represent the Business Intelligence function at senior level meetings; you will be required to work closely with clinical and operational teams, providing in-depth specialist information, analysis and advice and developing new performance management reporting, indicators and dashboards.

The role is offered on a hybrid working pattern, working two days a week in the office as you will be expected to attend face to face meetings and provide support to colleagues working on-site.

Candidates will be required to attend a face-to-face interview and test.

Main duties of the job

Using your highly developed analytical and data skills, you will contribute to the development of reporting to enable data-driven business decisions across Trust. You will have a strong track record in analytics, an eye for detail, excellent communications skills, be proactive, methodical, an enthusiastic self-motivated team player capable of balancing several competing demands, you will work logically, with great attention to detail and be tenacious in resolving problems.

You will have strong technical skills in SQL and Excel to an advanced level; you should have knowledge of NHS datasets, definitions and standards and will have experience of creating insightful reports and dashboards (ideally using Tableau).

You must be willing to attend meetings,have good powers of persuasion and be confident to present complex, sensitive or contentious information to senior staff.

This post is ideal for an experienced analyst who has the initiative to develop the role further.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree level, ideally in informatics, data analysis or a related IT field or equivalent significant experience in a relevant senior analytical post
  • Evidence of continued professional development in an area relevant to the role

Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience of using Microsoft SQL for querying relational databases and extracting information
  • Substantial experience of using Microsoft Excel to highly advanced level
  • Demonstrable experience of developing dashboards to monitor key performance metrics
  • Experience of developing reports and presenting to a wide range of staff
  • Experience of working at a senior level within an NHS information management function
Desirable
  • Experience of using business intelligence tools, ideally Tableau
  • Experience of NHS PAS systems

Knowledge

Essential
  • Knowledge of NHS data flows, datasets and data definitions
  • Knowledge of NHS policies & agenda relating to Information and Performance
  • Good understanding of Information Governance and of the importance of high quality data, confidentiality and security
Desirable
  • Knowledge of demand and capacity planning
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques

  • Ability to cope with tight deadlines and changing priorities, remaining calm under pressure
  • Able to be flexible and adapt to change to meet the needs of the service
