Network Manager

Introduction 
  
Our client, a leading provider of ICT solutions to the education sector, is seeking an experienced Network Manager to oversee the management and support of their ICT infrastructure at a designated school site. With a strong presence in the market, they deliver consultancy, infrastructure services, network upgrades, and managed support to educational institutions. This role will be critical in ensuring the smooth operation of ICT services, contributing to strategic development, and managing the day-to-day support functions. We are assisting our client in finding a skilled and proactive individual to join their team in this pivotal position.
  
Key Responsibilities
  
ICT Support On-Site
  
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality ICT support at the school/centre.
  • Manage the school's ICT services, handling advanced troubleshooting, maintaining service levels, and addressing network issues.
  • Oversee maintenance and upgrades of specialist equipment, and manage necessary repairs.
  • Prioritise workloads and mentor junior staff.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to senior leadership on ICT improvements.
  • Offer technical support and guidance on ICT requirements.
  • Communicate technical information clearly, adapting it to suit the audience.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels within budget, cataloguing resources and conducting audits.
  • Adhere to child protection, health and safety, security, and confidentiality policies, and report concerns as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection laws, maintaining secure, accurate management of personal data.
  • Analyse support logs and generate reports to plan future ICT services.
  • Provide second-line support for complex ICT issues and set support priorities accordingly.
  • Advise the leadership team on ICT risks or areas of concern.
  
Technical Expertise
  
  • Diagnose hardware, peripherals, and software issues at an advanced level.
  • Provide guidance on hardware and operating system compatibility.
  • Advise on application compatibility based on user needs and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Engineer to design and implement network infrastructure.
  • Manage network components, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Maintain internet filtering systems and manage remote access to the school’s intranet.
  
Processes
  
  • Tailor ICT processes to the school’s needs, reporting on effectiveness.
  • Design and implement procedures for receiving, testing, and disposing of equipment.
  • Regularly review system contingency plans.
  • Oversee backup and virus protection policies.
  • Implement security measures to protect data, hardware, and confidential information.
  • Monitor and report progress against service levels.
  • Understand the school's ICT service capabilities and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Assist with planning major ICT developments.
  
System Checks
  
  • Conduct regular system checks including:
  • Disk space monitoring
  • Backup verifications
  • Event log analysis
  • Monitoring shared storage for hypervisors
  • SNMP Traps checks
  
5. Holiday Projects
  
  • Lead engineering projects during school holidays, defining project scope and design.
  • Manage on-site teams, ensuring projects are completed on time.
  • Coordinate equipment and act as the main project liaison for the school.
  
6. Additional Responsibilities
  
  • Stay informed on the school’s ICT and legal obligations.
  • Develop and enforce health and safety procedures related to ICT.
  • Manage tasks independently and take on additional responsibilities as required by the management team.
  
Work Experience Requirements
  
  • Minimum two years' experience managing enterprise-level networks or service desks.
  • Virtualisation experience (VMWare or Hyper-V preferred).
  • Cloud services experience (desirable but not essential).
  
Education Requirements
  
  • Professional qualifications such as a degree or Masters in Computing, or MCSA/MCSE certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Additional IT certifications like Aruba, Cisco, HP, or similar enterprise-level qualifications.
