Digital Project Lead

Job summary

It is a really exciting time to join the Digital & Data Department as we are embarking on a large digital transformation programme.

We currently have an opportunity for a Digital Project Lead to join the Digital Projects Team on a fixed term basis.

The post-holder will play a key role in the successful delivery of the Digital Delivery roadmap. The successful candidate will manage a small project or workstreams within a larger scale project. Always ensuring their work is in-line with best practice and project methodologies.

The Digital Projects Team is part of the Digital Delivery Section of the Digital & Data Department. The team delivers projects working towards the Trusts Digital Delivery Roadmap and Frontline Digitisation agenda.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have experience in working within a digital projects team previously. They should be proactive and flexible with their approach to all tasks, and understand the organisation and coordination needed to lead project workstreams and contribute to the production of project documentation.

Job responsibilities

The responsibilities will include:

To project manage one specific IT project or IT work streams which is part of a programme, helping to develop the project/work stream business case and/or scoping and requirements and ensuring that the outputs specified in the scoping are delivered on time and to specification.

To keep the relevant Programme or Project Board aware of progress and risks (escalating as appropriate).

To ensure the Trusts project management framework is fully utilised and that the planning, monitoring and governance of the project are carried out in line with relevant Trust policies and procedures, raising any concerns to the programme manager in a timely manner.

To establish and sustain effective arrangements to plan, manage and monitor the outputs of any work streams that underpin the project, ensuring that they deliver the required outputs to the agreed specification and deadlines.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to postgraduate diploma level in a relevant subject or equivalent experiential learning
  • Evidence of training in programme or project management principles and techniques (or willingness to achieve within agreed timescale)
  • The Trust's QIS (Quality Improvement System) for Leaders Certificate (or willing to achieve within agreed timescale)
Desirable
  • Project Management qualification
  • Quality improvement qualification, or evidence of training in quality improvement principles and techniques

Experience

Essential
  • Experience in supporting change initiatives
  • Proven experience in engaging successfully with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of producing written reports and relating to complex information and data
  • Developing and monitoring project plans or change implementation plans
  • Experience of using influencing and negotiation techniques
  • Experience of producing written reports and relating to complex information and data
  • Experience of presenting complex issues to management in order to trigger a decision
  • Able to make reasoned judgements even when key information is missing or uncertain
  • Use of appropriate communications and coaching techniques to motivate and inspire others to act
  • Experience of participation in a project or working group governing a change initiative

Knowledge

Essential
  • Has an awareness of nationally recognised project management systems
  • Specific knowledge required to have credibility with the stakeholders for the project (or an indication from past experience that this can be gained quickly)
  • Understanding of the issues and context underlying the specific programme/projects to be managed (within agreed timescale)
  • Good understanding of the Trust's Programme/Project Management framework (within agreed timescale)
  • Good understanding of the Trust's Quality Improvement System (QIS) (within agreed timescale)
  • Awareness of the political and managerial context of the NHS and drivers of reform and change within the NHS
  • Understands coaching tools and how to manage and influence both directly managed staff, peers and more senior staff
  • Understands own strengths and weaknesses and able to seek advice/support accordingly
