This is a hybrid role with 2 days a week at our HQ in East Croydon and 3 days working from home. However, in March 2025 we will be moving to our new HQ in Clapham Junction with 3 days a week in the office.
As a Technical Solution Designer, you’ll design robust technical solutions that support seamless integration, performance, and resilience across our digital platforms. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our applications meet comprehensive functional and non-functional requirements. And you will analyse data and system interactions, using problem-solving skills to deliver effective, cloud-native solutions.
Key duties & responsibilities:
- Develop clear, actionable technical designs that ensure applications and services are resilient, scalable, and well-integrated across platforms.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Software Engineers, Architects, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineers to align designs with business and technical requirements.
- Analyse system interactions and data flow to troubleshoot, refine, and enhance digital service delivery.
- Conduct hands-on engineering work as needed to implement and validate solution designs.
- Engage with a modern technology stack, including Next.js, Azure DevOps, Terraform, Kubernetes, Service Bus, and Redis, as part of our transition to an event-driven, cloud-native architecture.
- Integrate best-in-class tools, such as Auth0/Okta and Amplience, to ensure secure, efficient operations and a top-tier digital experience for users.
- Use strong problem-solving and analytical skills to assess design options and drive continuous improvement
Essential Skills:
- Collaboration; Excellent communication, A team player, Advocate for best practice, Produces clear documentation.
- Analysis and System Design; UML or a similar framework (sequence, use case, activity diagrams), Data Analysis, with a variety of tools and data formats, Systems Thinking, Awareness of modern software engineering methodologies and the digital product lifecycle, including Agile
- Technology; Familiarity with web APIs (REST) and the JSON format, Good general knowledge of web and internet technologies, Knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems, Awareness of network and application security, Understanding of cloud computing, Familiar with a DevOps or DevSecOps approach, Awareness of Cybersecurity, particularly Web Application Security, Any programming or scripting languages (e.g., C#, Python, JavaScript, KQL)
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with high-traffic web applications, particularly eCommerce
- Microsoft Azure
- SQL
- Postman (or another API design and management tool)
- Microservices and similar system architecture patterns
- Application Performance Monitoring
- Awareness of full-stack web development (any stack)
- Knowledge of security standards, such as PCI DSS and ISO 27001.
